David67 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I have been thinking of buying a few bottles of whisky, cognac etc. from shops overseas and want to know what experiences others have had. How well are the bottles pack? Have you ever had breakages? Customs charges?
ptrthgr8 Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I've bought several bottles from the Whiskey Exchange and have never had any issues. I order them and they arrive at my door. No customs hassles or anything like that. Cheers, ~ Greg ~ Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2.
Zacapa Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Second that. Ive bought from Loch Fyne Whiskies several times as well as directly from the laphroaig distillery - never a breakage and never met with customs (although I always buy 1 bottle at a time I should note)

If it's over 125GBP, they now charge customs fee upfront - makes it no longer worth it, given the high shipping costs. Klwines.com is my go-to store (but I can do will call).
sengjc Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 I've bought alcohol from Masters of Malt, Peter Heinreich, the Whisky Exchange and La Casa del Habano Hamburg. All but one package from the Whisky Exchange attracted duty and taxes. I suspect this is because they send FedEx and their company trading name is 'Specialty Drinks Ltd'.
sharks Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Tried these guys a few times, all good, packed well, no customs. Maybe more luck than anything that no customs got it Also ordered 2 bottles at once. http://www.nickollsandperks.co.uk/. Post was trackable aswell Sharks
Zacapa Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 http://www.nickollsandperks.co.uk/. Post was trackable aswell Sharks It would want to be for GBP57 per bottle shipping !
Fuzz Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Pretty much like tobacco. If it gets picked up by Customs or Aus Post, you will pay the duty. If not, happy drinking!
winelover Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Very fortunate to live in the UK for a change. TWE has £6 a flat maxinum £6 shipping charge however much you order for domestic deliveries.
sharks Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 It would want to be for GBP57 per bottle shipping ! It really is unfortunate, some things just never reach our shore and others in such limited supply you have no option but to pay the shipping In more ways than one we are screwed in this county these days..
Ghabanos Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Any problems with fakes from buying online?

Agreed! As both a whisky and rum lover, i have much envy for British and US spirit prices
