Trusted Seller sent me this..Maybe not to be trusted anymore?

I bought a box of fakes from someone on the beach in Cuba (I wanted some cheap sticks to hand out to people who don't know the difference). After paying for the box the guy pulled out a roll of the bar codes and all other 'official' stickers that get put on the box. Bar codes don't mean anything.

I disagree - they are ONE of the data points that can be used to verify. Doesn't mean that having a valid bar code guarantees that a box is real, of course.

Did you check out the barcode you got from the fake seller mentioned above? What did it say?

Absolutely correct. There are dozens of things to check.....the box (many considerations), stamps (several types), seals (correct type for box type & date), cigars, bands, cigar size, as well as the supplier (private or dealer can indicate what type of fake it might be). No single item guarantees cigars are genuine. For example, if you buy from an individual they may fill an absolutely genuine box with fake cigars.....so the box checking out is no guarantee. This type of fake unlikely from a dealer......except maybe for high price discontinued release where a holding a single box may not be out of place.

I've decided to start a thread on this

She who cannot be named!

to the OP: I wouldn't discredit them based solely on the cutting of the feet, as everyone else has said. Overall they don't look too bad. If it was a vendor I trusted that sent these I wouldn't even worry about them. I'm not entiely sure that is bloom/plume either but that's neither here nor there, and doesn't play in to the authenticity.

This thread is really a testimony to Rob and the great smokes he procures to us.

First I want to thank everyone who took the time to respond. I learned quite a bit of new information from this post. Today the Habanos site was working and I did get a good result on the bar code. "The product is original Habanos S.A." with a HSA number and correct description of the contents of the box. While the feet are unusually uneven, I am of the opinion after listening to everyone here that these are authentic. I typically will wait at least several weeks before smoking a stick from a newly arrived box, but today I plan to make an exception. I have 2 other boxes of Monte # 2 in stock and I am very familiar with how they should smoke, but unfortunately these cigars seem to often be hit and miss.

As for this seller, I am very confident in their integrity. I have never had a problem with their product or service and I want to make sure that I have in no way put any blemish on their reputation. I was actually confident enough that I have a box in route and yesterday I even placed an order for two more boxes of other cigars.

On another note, (this should probably be another thread entirely) I would love to make a trip to Cuba. Though I live in the USA, I have a Canadian passport so I believe I can fly direct? Does anyone know if I am correct? Are there any group trips to Cuba planned by any members. I have never been and would love to check out the local history, factories and tourist sites and I think this would be much more enjoyable (and perhaps safer) if I joined a group that was headed there already.

These sellers are great. Next time just ask a friend by pm?

In hindsight, that is what I should have done. However, I was looking for several opinions. Next time, I think I will follow your advice though.
