stargazer14 Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Cuba's biggest tourist trap to soon reopen.... "Sloppy Joe's rebirth now is yet another signal that a half century of nonsense between the U.S. and Cuba is coming to an end."
stargazer14 Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 Here is a photo of my Grandmother and Grandfather (with extended family!) at Sloppy Joe's during prohibition...
Ryan Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 That is a great picture to have. I've always tried to call in when I'm in Havana. Last time I managed to was in November 2011, they were working on it then. At least the windows look like they were going to be accurate reproductions, the bar isn't made of wood anymore though.. Last I heard was last November they were at the point of polishing the floors. I hope it's open next month. I'll have a daiquiri at the bar and pretend I'm Alec Guinness Bar Work crew Outside, Nov 2011
Puros Y Vino Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Great historical picture! Very cool keepsake. The pictures of the rebuild are cool too. I can only imagine what the ambiance was way back then. I suspect the new one will be similar to hanging out in the Hotel Nacionale. If so, bring it on!

stargazer14 Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 I'd love to go someday! Great, we can get a group trip together and you can help me re-create that shot, as I sit in the same spot my grandfather was.
pedromendes Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 That's what it looked like in November? That's also what it looked like when I was there in May... can't believe they've finished it just a few months later. Can't also wait to see it!
Ryan Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 My pictures are from November 2011. It looked the same in February last year. Last I heard, from November 2012, was that they were polishing the floors. No pictures yet though. I'll have some in just over three weeks time.
