There's a short tale regarding the acquisition of these Fohibas:

My (possible one day) mother-in-law went to the Dominican Republic on holiday in late November and picked these up (I didn't know at that point). I was helping the girlfriend move some stuff around her Mum's house at some point in December and noticed these on the side and thought they were for my mother-in-law's partner (who isn't a cigar smoker, but a cigarette smoker), so told my girlfriend they were fake so she could pass the message on just for information. Alas.... Christmas Day, opened my present from said mother-in-law, they were actually for me, bless her, it's definitely the thought that counts! Lucky I got a nice T-Shirt too!

Anywho, I guess they're trying to be Siglo VIs at around 50/52 ring gauge and 6 inches. Took one apart, was just full of short filler tobacco. So gave one a go, wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting, have had worse. Got one left, stored away from the Puros!

I must say, after reading all about the fake Cohibas all over the world, people who get glass/plastic tops over there's, count yourselves lucky..... I just got cellophane around the wood haha!

Nice gift, even fake. There is just something so special about glass top box of cigars!

And I usually dont mention to people when they show me or offer their fake smokes

how fake they are, unless they know and love them as much as I do for what they are.

I had a kid at the marina in Cabo go from $150 to about $10 for a 10 count box, he swore they were real.

So special indeed haha! I wouldn't of brought it up if I had thought they were for me, was a tad awkward, but hey ho, no harm done!

Thank goodness she didn't get you a 25 count box of them!

Thanks goodness indeed!

I love the fact that they took time to stamp ORIGINALshead.gif

LOL. My thoughts too! So they MUST be authentic then!!!! :lmao:

But, it's definitely the thought that counts, MattW. You've got a good (potential, future) mother-in-law then!!!

Glad I ran across this sight or would have been one of those guys that swore I was smoking a real cuban when in fact I would have been burning these as well.

My uncle gave me a 3 pack identical to this about two months ago and being ignorant on the subject of real VS. fake I had no clue and was just ecstatic that I finally had a real cuban to smoke. I was fortunate enough to enjoy the real deal from a reputable source a few weeks ago and am glad I hadn't fired one of these up.

Thanks for the education i'm getting here! Now I got to go remove these from my humi as they are taking up valuable real estate.
