polarbear Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 After spending a lot of time with Non-Cubans i've decided to concentrate on Cuban Cigars for a while. When I was really into Cubans I mainly stuck with the 3 main Habanos brands of Cohiba, Montecristo and Romeo y Julietta What are some brands/sizes to look at outside of the normal lines? I'm a big fan of: Monte #2's, Edmundos Cohiba Siglo 1-6, Lanceros, Robustos RyJ Wide/Short Churchill Also enjoy the Partagas PSD4 and PSP2 Thanks guys
brazoseagle Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I can only imagine that if those brands are considered or presumed as the "big 3", it is due to several factors across the world: 1) Most mass produced 2) Name recognition 3) Most Counterfited 4) Most stock is purchased as gifts or smoked by a demographic of buyers in airports that don't know better, thus contributing to the sales statistic. I fully disagree that these 3 are the "big 3" in terms of flavor and enjoyment for me. As I do enjoy these Marcas, they are not my "go to" everyday sticks that I pretty much enjoy most of the sizes in the Marca. Which are: Partagas (D4, P2, Short, Lusi, 898, Vintage Churchill De Luxe) H Upmann (Sir Winnie, #2, Mag 46, Mag 50, Monarchas) Bolivar (PC, BBF, CE, CJ, CG, GM, RC) These are my big 3!
UpInSmoak Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Bolivar is one of my favorite marcas. Cant go wrong with many of the vitolas. Pick ur favorite size and you'll be good to go. Ramon Allones is also a staple in many humidors.

Allow me to clarify... I meant the brands that most people (non Cuban Cigar enthusiasts) think of when looking to try Cuban Cigars Those 3 are the most "mainstream" brands from what i've seen Most widely avaliable, produced ect Brands that will never be discontinued by Habanos I know there are better brands out there but when I was smoking CC's i never tried them
Lotusguy Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 You owe it to yourself to try Ramon Allones Bolivar HdM

Rob has some great sample packs that he sells, especially the Partagas Party Sampler, it's a great way to try some of the maybe lesser known lines or lines that someone doesn't have much experience with. You can even create your own sampler of singles, which is awesome!!
PigFish Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 RG, QdO, ERdM for a few. Just livin' in the past! -Piggy

bassman Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Can't go wrong with Bolivar. Grab a box of PCs to try. Want a big smoke? Get a couple SLR DC singles.
jrb5783 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 You owe it to yourself to try Ramon Allones Bolivar HdM x2 these are my favorite marcas
Habanos2000 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Upmann Mag 46 and 50 Partagas 898 since you already like the D4 Bolivar Petit Corona and Royal Corona Damn, my mouth is watering!
Colt45 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I'm another Bolivar fan, along with Upmann, and Hoyo. Some of these might a bit different than those you've mentioned, but are certainly worth exploring as you can. Ray mentioned Rafael Gonzalez - I've recently been smoking some '09 RG Coronas Extra, and would concur. For me they exhibit the best of what makes a Havana...... Smooth, a bit of salty spice, balanced, subtle but flavorful. Not "in your face", but so enjoyable. The background of this box makes them a bit more special for me, but they are great cigars no matter how you slice it..... Enjoy the ride
mk05 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 put all the remaining marca names on little pieces of paper put them in a hat shake said hat pull out some papers buy marcas on paper rinse and repeat.
jacktarnold Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 put all the remaining marca names on little pieces of paperput them in a hat shake said hat pull out some papers buy marcas on paper rinse and repeat. X2. Or walk in to a B&M and randomly pick some that aren't in your big 3 and see what floats your boat.
maverickdrinker Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 get a sampler of RA, RG, Bolivar, H Upmann, Partagas and ERDM. It would give you a good spectrum of the different marcas. Good luck and enjoy the journey....
