Sublimes, best cigar I have ever had. End of discussion .

Grand Edmundos, have gone thu 2 boxes. Disappointing to date. They start off good, creamy a little chocolate. No change thu 2nd third. Final third gets ugly. Needs more time. IMO . Will try again in 6 months.

520. Sitting on a few boxes. Will try soon and get back to you.

Smoked all 3 in the last 2 months and think that the 520 is the best. The flavors of the 520 were so much more bold and clear than all of the rest of them. The sublime is an excellent cigar, but is a bit more subtle flavor wise. The GEs are great, but I have found are quite inconsistent and I've had quite a few that are downright boring.

I think this first run of 520s may challenge the first run BHK in terms of being a truly fantastic cigar

For me it's a natural progression.

I've had a few Sublimes and have enjoyed but they haven't blown me away. They're smooth, but I expected a richer, stronger taste out of it. I do prefer the vitola though.

The MGE was a pleasant surprise. It had some rich chocolate, cocoa, leather and coffee notes for me, I have yet to have a disappointing one.

As for the 520. I've smoked a couple and find them to be the most complex of the three. I've tasted much of what I listed above and more; such as nuts and anise. Very rich flavours, not too strong. I did a review of one a while back.

So, my ranking?

  1. Montecristo 520
  2. Montecristo Grand Edmundo
  3. Montecristo Sublimes

While I wish I had stocked up more on the Sublimes and have a good amount of MGE's sleeping. I'm thinking I need to go deep on the 520's.

I love the Monte GE and will hopefully have some 520's to compare them to soon. If I could locate some Sublime's that would be great.

The one common review I seem to read about the Sublime is that it is very smooth and lighter than expected. Those who can't really distinguish different flavors in cigar may find them flat or uninteresting, but those who enjoy lighter more complex cigars may be in heaven. My main feelings about the Montecristo Grand Edmundo are that it's a solid cigar. I have enjoyed all but one I smoked because that one was so under filled it basically collapsed as I smoked it. All of the others have been very rich, smooth and enjoyable. Not overly complex, but wonderful flavors of a milk chocolate latte, dark (very smooth) espresso and some earthy wood. I have quite a few boxes and the oilier cigars have been exceptional and the drier wrappered cigars have been good to excellent.

Since the Monte GE's are becoming more scarce it would behoove those who were a fan or like EL cigars to buy one or two boxes. Unlike some other EL cigars that have not aged well I think the GE does have the legs to be a classic cigar at the 10 year point of the box date. We will see how the 520's fare.

I still haven't tried the 520 yet. I had my first Sublime about two weeks ago. I traded an R&J Duke for it. I've had a few of the GE's and think they are great. I wasn't overly impressed by the Sublime. I thought it was excellent. My expectations might have been a bit too high perhaps.

Sublime is one of the best cigars I've smoked.

MGE, great cigar, or at least it starts great and creamy and then turns into another usual good CC.

520, not refined, or something was missing for me as far as taste and flavor, I am actually kind of disappointed at the one I've already had, but even if they age well, it's just too big of a cigar for me.

Maybe he meant "would be" haha

I've been vocal about my love for 520 ever since the festival sample. I think they will age quite nicely. The sublime - the couple I had - were miles better than the Grand Edmundo, which albeit good, tastes like it has a definite ceiling.

I've only smoked the GE and the 520. I've had 6 of the GE (from two different boxes) and they all were underwhelming. I was very disappointed at the time because I had read so many rave reviews of the GE. Perhaps I had bad luck in my purchase/trades, but after smoking the 520 while I was in Mexico, I bought a box (I actually tried for two) during Rob's special. Wow! A young stick, but so rich and complex. I must have more! If the Sublimes are that much better than the 520 (per this poll and I've certainly read great things about them), I can only hope the 520s mature to something close to that status. Regardless, I do hope to find a Sublime in the future so I can give it a spin and judge for myself.

Cheers!

One Duke for one Sublimes? No need to say who had the upper hand in this deal!

I finally had my first 520 and was not impressed. This cigar reminds me of the RA Extra thta everybody went crazy about and I disliked immensely. I'm thinking I'm just...different...

Easy order for me...for now.

Sublimes

GE

520

Really? I'm surprised. The 520's I amoked were a little "green" but showed enormous potential, at least, a lot more than GE. I guess time will tell.

I had a Sublime from June 2008 last night. It was amazing!!! It was good back in late 08 but it's better now with 4 years time. I have only smoked 1 520 and have a box coming but the one I smoked was nearly as good as the Sublime back in 08, hopefully it can turn out as good as the Sublime. I never really warmed up to the GE's, I had a few that were too rough and had the typical EL flavor. I smoked one a few months ago it it was better than in 2010 but still not as good as the sublime or 520.

1. Sublime

2. 520

3. Grand Edmundo

Potential? Sure I guess. I have not been smoking cigars for decades so I don't really know. I was just rating on the single stick.

Gonna fire another in the next few days and see if it was just a fluke stick that I didn't like.

I'm sure you know your cigars more than enough ;o) if you don't like the 520's I'll trade your stuff for a magnificent Cristalles... Stunning cigar, really. ;)
