Spit Roasting - Gas and Coal on the 4 Burner?

Overproof

Recommended Posts

Was thinking of doing this for Australia Day. Has anyone turned their 4 burner BBQ into half coal and half gas?

I could having the middle section coal and the outer running gas..Use some of the foil trays for the coal and poke holes in em for air or is this really stupid and dangerous??

Alternativly can you dodge up one of the BBQ rotisseries for a weber?

My back up is another pulled pork.

If you are going to use charcoal, they can burn straight through the foil trays. The charcoal I import can get to well over 2000oC, in fact one customer uses it in his forge.

Personally, I would not have charcoal anywhere near a lit gas burner. I know the Weber Performer has a gas burner in the kettle, but that is not supposed to be in use once the charcoal has been lit.

You bet you can dodgy up a rotisserie for the Weber. Depending on the size of meat you are using, you could try one of these:

You can get this from Ray's Outdoors for about $80. The box is adjustable so you can slide it in or out to fit within the Weber. The alternative is to buy a Weber rotisserie ring:
