MIKA27
‘Venom’ Movie to Feature the Villain Carnage Sony is moving full-speed ahead on their Spider-Man spinoff, Venom. Last month, Tom Hardy signed on to star with Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad) on board to direct with a release date set for October 5, 2018. For those who are unfamiliar with the character, Venom’s original incarnation is photographer Eddie Brock, a rival at the Daily Bugle to Peter Parker. After Peter Parker ditches the alien symbiote that gave him the black suit but also amplified his darker impulses, the symbiote comes across Brock and merges with him to become Venom. Venom basically has all of Spider-Man’s powers, but he’s bigger, meaner, and drools a lot. While it’s unclear how exactly Venom will work if his story is no longer tied to Spider-Man’s, that doesn’t seem to be a concern for Sony. The film is moving ahead, and now THR reports in an-depth article about the Sony/Marvel deal that Venom will also feature the villain Carnage. Here’s Carnage’s history: the character first appeared as serial killer (ugh) Cletus Kassidy. Kassidy shared a cell with Brock in prison, and Brock escaped using the symbiote. However, the symbiote left some of itself behind, merged with Kassidy, and the Kassidy became Carnage. His powers include physical strength, shapeshifting, and all of Spider-Man’s powers. Basically, Venom is “What if Spider-Man was an anti-hero?” and Carnage is “What if Spider-Man was a bad guy with lots and lots of powers?” I don’t have much hope for Venom, but that’s mainly because Avi Arad, who drove the Spider-Man franchise into the ground before Marvel Studios came along to try and resuce it, is a producer on the project. He’s a wealth of bad ideas, and Venom, who could work in some contexts, will probably be reduced to a glowering anti-hero who builds up to a fight with Carnage. As for whether or not Spider-Man will make any appearance in movie featuring two characters who have Spider-Man’s powers, it remains to be seen. Producer Amy Pascal hinted that they would like to have Venom take place in the world of Spider-Man: Homecoming, but Kevin Feige is not a producer on Venom and Tom Holland is currently only signed to do two Spider-Man: Homecoming sequels for Sony. MIKA27
‘American Assassin’ Red Band Trailer Teases Espionage Action CBS Films has released a new red band trailer for the superspy thriller American Assassin. Based on the best-selling novel by Vince Flynn, the hopeful franchise starter stars Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) as CIA black ops recruit, Mitch Rapp, who is enlisted to investigate a wave of terrorist attacks on civilian and military targets and finds himself wrapped up in a mission to prevent a world war. This basically looks like Homeland: The Movie, which isn’t inherently a bad thing. Homeland is an entertaining show! And Cuesta worked on that Showtime series, so the similarity is sort of intrinsic. This film is kind of a test case to see if O’Brien can lead an action franchise all his own, and judging by this trailer, he absolutely can. The actor shot this movie after recovering from an incident on the Maze Runner: The Death Cure set that shut that movie’s production down. He went and filmed American Assassin after he got better, and then moved back into The Death Cure. By all accounts, the guy has made a full recovery—he kicks all kinds of ass in this here trailer. Directed by Michael Cuesta (Kill the Messenger), the film also stars Michael Keaton, Sanaa Lathan, Shiva Negar, and Taylor Kitsch. American Assassin opens September 15th. Here’s the official synopsis for American Assassin: Quote AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien) a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East. I've been talking to a few of my mates about this project, trying to figure out how they would make Venom work without Spiderman and I honestly think they'll end up going with the combination of original Venom and Agent Venom elements. Example- Eddy Brock is in jail for some heinous crime that he did or did not commit when he's approached by some super secret government organisation to take part in an experimental super soldier program and finds some redemption through being bonded with the symbiote and taking out bad guys. Its not a hard premise to write as its been done 100s of times. Plus, they don't actually need to explain where the symbiote came from and then they can retcon the origin if Spiderman happens to come back from Infinity Wars with a fancy black suit. Throwing Carnage into the mix also works as they can "pull a Suicide Squad" and say that Cletus Cassidy was the first volunteer for the program and he went rogue, so they recruit Eddy Brock to go after him I'd probably pay to see it, especially if its rated R. That doesn't mean it'll be any good though. I've learned to not trust Sony with the things I love ever since they drove Sam Rami out of Spiderman 3 Also, I'm starting it now: #mcconaugheyforcarnage
MIKA27
Karim Rashid’s ‘Decant’ Wine Bottle Stratus Vineyards is an Ontario-based winery committed to producing outstanding wines while still focusing on sustainability. Their latest release is a debut bottling of a Cabernet Franc they’re calling “Decant” because it’s packaged in a very unique bottle that was designed by none other than Karim Rashid. The renowned industrial designer has a unique touch that’s been described as everything from contemporary to brutalist, and the “Decant” bottling of the Stratus Cabernet Franc sits firmly between those two on the spectrum. Rashid said he wanted to deconstruct the traditional wine bottle so he “chopped it up.” The eye-catching end result also has some added bits of functionality. First, it’s easy to hold and pour because of the added grip point. More importantly, the ridges trap sediment while pouring and naturally decants the wine. This isn’t a bottle you’ll ever find in a monthly delivery box, so get your hands on one quick if you want it for the collection.

MIKA27
MOBY MART It sounds too good to be true: a store on wheels that comes to you. That's exactly what Moby Mart promises. This autonomous, staffless mobile store offers up milk, medicine, clothes, and even electronics on-demand, with an app that not only summons the store but also serves as the checkout. Developed by Wheelys in collaboration with Hefei University and Himalafy, the Moby is also self-powered, relying on solar panels to provide energy for the electric drivetrain, while an integrated air purifier cleans the air around it — making it very eco-friendly. The company estimates that each store will cost under $100,000, and the concept is currently beta testing in Shanghai.

The American artist known for everything from vacuum cleaners in glass cases and blue gazing balls situated on other famous works to giant inflatable balloons and art cars recently had a profile piece commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. The short documentary film about Koons is narrated by Scarlett Johansson and features appearances by George Condo, Pharrell, Frank Gehry, Larry Gagosian, and Dakis Joannou, all discussing aspects of Koons’s work and its impact on the world. Jeff Koons: MOCA or Jeff Koons: As Told by Scarlett Johansson was written and directed by Oscar Boyson for MOCA Los Angeles for their 2017 gala honoring Koons. It’s an interesting look at the man who’s helped truly define what modern pop art is.

MIKA27
Of Course Jeff Goldblum Provides The Tagline For Jurassic World 2's Title Reveal It's official: Jurassic World 2 is now Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. But that isn't the most interesting thing about the first poster for the film, which was released this morning. It's that the film's tagline is a Jeff Goldblum classic that you've probably already guessed before I even finished this sentence. With just a year before Fallen Kingdom hits theatres, the title and first poster were unveiled on social media today — and yes, the tagline is "Life Finds a Way", Dr Ian Malcolm's iconic declaration from the original Jurassic Park. It's no surprise that from the get go, the movie wants you to be well aware that Goldblum is back in his iconic role for the first time since 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park. I mean, after all, if you get Goldblum back, you flaunt his Goldblumminess at every available goddamn opportunity. Get him out there saying the lines and doing the things he needs to do (which are mainly "be Jeff Goldblum") between now and this time next year, and that's pretty much the marketing sorted. In fact, there's already a template for weaponised Goldblum nostalgia: Just look at how Independence Day: Resurgence sold itself. From pretty much day one, Goldblum — whose next film is October's Thor: Ragnarok — was all over the trailers and giving interviews, and by the end of that whole wild cycle, they were trying to get us to turn ancient memes into Goldblum mashups. So if you think we've already reached peak Goldblum hysteria, well, I'm sure Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will, uh, find a way to top it. MIKA27
ORA GRAPHENEQ HI-FI HEADPHONES It was in 2004 that graphene, the “wonder material,” was first discovered. It is the thinnest material possible and 200 times stronger than steel. And, as it turns out, it’s also the perfect thing out of which to craft speaker cones. Since it’s discovery, however, nobody has leveraged it into audio equipment – until now. Allow us to introduce the ORA GrapheneQ hi-fi headphones. GrapheneQ, for reference, is a proprietary nano-composite built by ORA Sound that’s acoustically optimized for use in loudspeakers. That means that this version of graphene is the most ideal for audio electronics. It offers one of the smoothest frequency response curves of any driver on the market – including those offered by big-name competitors – and even reduces power consumption. Plus, on top of offering some of the best sound quality out there, these headphones are also equipped with button-free gesture controls, the option for wireless Bluetooth connectivity, and all at a fraction of the price of other hi-fi wireless headphones. In fact, if you back them on Kickstarter now, you can get a pair for just $329.
MIKA27
SEGA FOREVER CLASSIC GAME APPS Though time has not been kind to the brand, Sega was once one of the greatest video game publishers in the world. And, to this day, hundreds of thousands of people still love old school classics like Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Comix Zone, and more. Well, now the publisher is bringing their retro games into the future via Sega Forever, a collection of their old games ported for play on both iOS and Android mobile devices. And they’re free. You read that right. You can play all of the aforementioned Sega games plus a few more (and with even more to be released monthly) from all eras and systems on your smartphone, tablet, or otherwise. And you don’t have to pay a dime for them. You will, however, have to contest with some in-app ads unless you spend a couple bucks to disable them in each individual app. Still, it’s a small price to pay for the nostalgia. You can even save your game, use a Bluetooth controller, and compete to reach the top of the online leaderboards. If we don’t already spend way too much time on our phones, we’re certainly going to now.

MIKA27
The New Star Trek Show Will Break One of Its Creator's Cardinal Rules In the mid '60s, Gene Roddenberry created a show that would become one of the most important sci-fi franchises in history. It's a utopian vision of the future that has produced some of the firsts on television, including the first interracial kiss. The creator instigated a number of rules that have been followed for every single iteration of Star Trek that has come since. Until this year. The newest show in the Star Trek franchise won't follow one of Roddenberry's general guidelines. Throughout the decades, Star Trek writers have avoided putting Starfleet members into direct conflict with one another. That's one of the rules that creates Star Trek's idea of the future, where humanity has reached its zenith to explore the reaches of space. Except in Star Trek: Discovery, writers have been allowed to ignore this notion. As showrunner Aaron Harberts told Entertainment Weekly: Quote "We're trying to do stories that are complicated, with characters with strong points of view and strong passions. People have to make mistakes — mistakes are still going to be made in the future. We're still going to argue in the future ... The thing we're taking from Roddenberry is how we solve those conflicts. So we do have our characters in conflict, we do have them struggling with each other, but it's about how they find a solution and work through their problems." In other words, prepare for some major space drama. MIKA: I'm looking forward to this, especially the internal drama, very much along the same lines that made me love every bit of the 2004 series of Battlestar Galactica
MIKA27
VULCAN INNOVA WATCH WINDER For a subset of guys, high quality watches and automobiles share a similar appeal. Their inner workings are intricate and complicated to the point of being almost beautiful. It is fitting, then, that Vulcan Innova has fashioned their VI52 Watch Winder out of an engine block. Built from an old BMW M52 straight-six, the same type used in the E36 M3, this winder is engineered to hold six different watches at a time. The winders themselves are custom built using components CNC-machined from billet aluminum and integrate seamlessly into the engine’s body as if they’re a set of pistons. Each one submerges into the engine block with the touch of a button, locking the timepieces into place. Thanks to the use of stepper engines, those pistons run a quiet and controllable movement throughout the day. Depending on your watch, you can pick from one of 8 different movements to better charge your watch’s internal movement. Each of the 52 winders will be made to order by hand in Los Angeles, allowing customers to personalize small details like the engine block color, piston color, and even LED indicator colors on the buttons. MIKA27
More Than Two Years After It Was Announced, The Greatest Action Figure Ever Is Finally Shipping (Soon) When a fancy new toy is revealed, it isn't uncommon to have to wait a few months to actually get your hands on one. But Hot Toys has been testing the resolve of Iron Man fans who pre-ordered the company's towering Hulkbuster figure over two and a half years ago, and will now have to wait just a little while longer for delivery. If you can remember back to 2014, it was a simpler time. Good people held office, Adam West was still with us, and @Fuzz and the world got its first glimpse at the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, complete with a sneak peek at Iron Man's massive Hulkbuster armour. Shortly after, at the Toy Soul convention in Hong Kong, Hot Toys, makers of some of the world's most incredibly detailed action figures, showed off a 53.3cm-tall Hulkbuster figure with over 30 points of articulation, 16 light-up features, and enough room to put another 30cm tall Iron Man figure inside. It was nothing short of a masterpiece, and that was reflected in its $US825 ($1088) price tag. Since December of 2014 there have been few updates from Hot Toys about the Hulkbuster, but a recent post on the company's Facebook page reveals the figure will finally be shipping this spring (autumn in the US). Quote Today Hot Toys is announcing the 1/6th scale Hulkbuster collectible figure will begin shipping this Fall. Hot Toys' Hulkbuster is a highly sought-after collectible figure that many fans around the world have high hopes for the final product. Keeping that in mind, Hot Toys' production team has spent tremendous effort and dedication to work on the major revamps and made sure we deliver our figure in the greatest quality. The Hulkbuster collectible figure is currently in the final stretch of production, fans can expect an awe-inspiring figure featuring supreme quality and gorgeous detailing as seen in these new photos. With all these incredible upgrades, the Hot Toys Hulkbuster will definitely be a powerful collectible figure to place along with your Iron Man collection. Lastly, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to our dearest fans for your patience and understanding during the waiting period. Please be with us for the upcoming release announcement! Iron Man fans willing to spend over $1000 on an action figure will certainly be relieved to hear their pre-order is still en route, but perhaps Hot Toys should have waited until it could have specified an exact date for deliveries, instead of leaving customers hanging on for just a little while longer.
