Puros Y Vino
According to CCW, the wood used has changed. "Around 1997, the timber changed from solid cedar to cedar veneered plywood." Where would one get "cedar veneered plywood"? I'm interesting in getting some custom boxes made. Any suggestions on what type of wood I can use would be welcome too. The base requirements being, non odorous and able to withstand warping from moisture.

canadianbeaver
Anthony, the fellow who built our home up north and recently, our new deck is a wood craftsman. We are talking about him building me a standing humidor. Red cedar is pretty hard to find and is very expensive. He suggested mahogany with cedar shelves? BTW red cedar is not cedar at all. papatrips
I suggest using marine grade mahogany ply. I have used it a lot and it is easy to work with and would make great boxes. It is also easier to find.
maverickdrinker
Had a discussion on this last night as a buddy of mine is building a walk in. Marine grade mahogany was also suggested to use.

papatrips
I am not sure in the Toronto area. Here in London there is a shop that carries it. I know there is a place in Burlington that has been mentioned when I asked about building my cabinet. This place http://www.exotic-wo...=marine-plywood . Although they don't have it currently listed. Other marine or trim shops should carry it. Depending on thickeness it should run you between $70-90 for a 4x8 If you get stuck PM me about the London place. CigarmanTim
Hey Frank. a place I go to now and then is up in Amish country called Keim lumber. http://www.keimlumber.com/ They have veneers and about any wood you can think of. In the Specialty wood category select exotics. This page is so incomplete it is sad. There are over 200 different types of woods including true "spanish Cedar" which we all now know its a type of Mahogany. You never know what they are going to have size wise. It could be 6" x 6' x 1/2" or it could be a 2 foot long 4 x 6" of solid spanish cedar. They have every wood imaginable and if it needs cut down and planed to spec, you have a guy in Ohio here who has the equipment to do that. They say they have veneers but I have never looked at them. If you need me to run up there and purchase something, let me know.
bigharpoon
In Mass there is an awesome wood company called Boulter that has tons of specialty woods including plywood. You can even custom choose each ply of wood if you desire. Pretty much anything you dream up they will laminate and cut as well: http://www.boulterplywood.com/

CanuckSARTech
Frank, a great place to look into is A&M Woodworking in Cambridge / Kitchener. They're who I sourced my cedar from for my custom humidor cabinet. And they had lots of wood options for humidor-related stuff.
