Bolivar Petite Corona (2005 cab)

One of my favorite cigars of all time, the Bolivar Petite Corona... look at this handsome gentleman:

And this handsome gentleman for Lisa:

Prelight:

Mottled, oily dark brown wrapper. Construction is spot on with no obvious soft spots and the watermark adds a nice bit of character not unlike a birth mark. The prelight draw is all cocoa with hints of pepper.

1/3:

Initial pulls are very typical BPC: cocoa, coffee and soil. Not much in terms of spice which was somewhat surprising due to the cold draw. The smoke is very ample and creamy while maintaining a slight bite on the finish. The burn is somewhat wonky but always rights itself after a while. The flavor is full and the ash is dark and solid.

2/3:

Flavor is intensifying and the cocoa drops off a bit and lets the coffee notes really shine. There is a slightly bitter aftertaste but it complements the rest of the cigar really well. The draw and burn remain very good and the cigar does not really require any touch ups.

3/3:

This cigar is truly a caged animal. The flavor has intensified once again and the coffee notes are totally dominating the cigar. The ash gets a little lighter towards the end and the draw opens up a little more but it smokes cool right down to the nub. There is a slight sweetness to the smoke at the end of the cigar which I hadn't experienced in a boli PC before. Quite a nice surprise at the end of a wonderful smoke.

Overall:

By far the best boli PC I have ever smoked. I got these as part of a 5 pack that I added onto a big order of REs and I had forgot about them for a while now. I figured I would review it because bolivar is one of my favorite marcas along with ramon allones and the BPC in particular just shines. I have honestly never had a bad BPC other than one that took a little while to open up, and as such I can always rely on the BPC to meet or exceed my expectations... I really need to invest in a cab one of these days.

Oh, and lets not forget...

BONUS ART SHOT!

I like my coffee like my fossils... surrounded by sediment.

Ha! Classic. Great review! One of my favorites. I have a 50 cab and 2 boxes all from 11 and 12. Boxed smokes are slightly pressed and are smoking ROTT.

I get the same flavours you described with a bit of sweetness in the 2nd third.

The best quick smoke after a tough day due to the fact your guaranteed a great smoke.

I'm smoking my second one of these right now. I've been on it for a good hour along with a bourbon on ice. I am on the last third and it is not letting up a bit. There is a strong coffee flavor with a bit of a sweet yet woodsy finish. These are great. I am definitely going to add these to my must have list.

I'll say this. The boli PC in recent years has been my most consistently high performing cigar. Whoever has been in charge of blending and rolling boli PC has been spot on with everything.

Hail the BPC. smoking one right now from Sept 13 box and they are my hands down fav Boli next to the BCE ;(. Loads of coffee, cream white spice and the earthiness, love the soil earthiness from these, and always med-full. When I want a truly satisfying cigar I always reach for these. Thanks for the review and pics.

I have to give my 2¢ on this..long time lurking member. My '05 tubos were the first purchase I made from Rob....my box (10 remaining) are as described..and I've had a multitude of cabs and dress boxes,.and certainly later releases are definetly "ready to smoke" sooner than they used to be overall... It is a trend that I hope continues now asy the initial concern around 06-07 about "ageworthiness" is hopefully proved to be dispelled.

Great review and an amazing cigar. Out of countless boxes I have not had one that disappointed me. Actually need to find myself a Cab as my supply is getting low. Hard cigar to put away an age as I cannot stop myself from dipping into them.
