DougB Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 After this year and what we have gone through down here- **** this past 2 weeks- I welcome a New Year with open arms and mind. Looking forward to blue skies, good cigars, good health, good times and low golf scores.
Guest RobbieG Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 If you're down on your luck you can count your true friends on one hand.Treasure those ones.I have been through hell and came back.It wasn't pleasant but I came back. Now if live would be fair we all would drive a Mercedes.Today, I follow the Dogs Philosophy,If you can't eat it,drink it, f#$k it,Piss on it.Works well for me. You forgot the most important one, "smoke it..." - lol
Eltoasto Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Still have my job, family's health, home and dodged a hurricane but tonight just tops off a terrible week for the books. My prayers to everyone else who has had a rough one. Good friends and happy smokes are about all I can count on going forward. C'est la vie...
JY0 Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 Great post Rob. Thank you. I'm having a tough year and look forward to 2013. I try to keep things in perspective. Someone else always has it tougher.
maverickdrinker Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 2012 will be one to remember for me for sure. The positives is that family is great. Made some new friends and have had a lot of fun. The new opportunity is that I have a chance to step back and see what to next, from a employment perspective. A few weeks before my annual Havana trip, I was informed that my department is restructuring and that my position has been made redundant. The new strategic direction did not require a head of Inside Sales and that I had 30 days to find a new position within my firm or accept a severance package. After taking a look at jobs at my current level, I came to the conclusion that the severance package was the better option. As I work to getting to a mutually beneficial package, I've had the opportunity to reflect on what new career path to embark on. The silver lining is that I have had the opportunity to spend time with my children as well. One of the sacrifices that I have had to make over the years is time with the family due to number of hours worked and travel. It has been good to recapture some of that time back. I've also been able to go to the gym as well and just take some time to reflect. The results of the gym have to still be brought to the forefront. LOL I've never really been able to take this type of time off from work. Even during vacations, I had work on the mind or had to work. It has been refreshing to be able to not stress about things. It has been an adjustment to say the least. Overall, I am excited for what 2013 holds as it is an opportunity to reinvent myself, from a work standpoint.
canadianbeaver Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Art, only good things can happen to a spectacular specimen like you. Best wishes my friend and join us up north anytime!

Art, I have no doubt that yo will be able to find a new path to excel in unless..... it requires Spanish speaking lol In all seriousness my friend, someone with your drive will be able to find a great career I am sure. Enjoy the time with the kids, wife, friends, humidors....If I was able to change my path by going back to school, I have no doubt you can also find something new that will drive you and be successful. Send me a check when you do succeed tho.

amosnaim Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Thank you Rob. One of the greatest posts ever. And thanks you Orion for posting Jimmy V speech - Brought me to tears, here is to 2013! cheers to all
David67 Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Well the new "plain packaging" has hurt a lot of good people who sell cigars here. Anyway good to see Jules feeling the heat in Parliament and in the press
mongboy Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 First post in a while...I'll endeavour to make it a good one. To say 2012 has been the most eventful year would be an understatement. The Mrs and I have both been through surgery, she is now minus her tonsils and I am now minus my thyroid. That, plus another couple of health issues and 2012 would usually be classed as a forgettable year. The arrival of my son, Rhys, in January, means 2012 will always be remembered as a year of many milestones. Roll on 2013...
