El Presidente Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I know we are not even to the end of 2012 but I suspect for many of you it can't come fast enough! it is always a pleasure to read the announcements of members who have recently married or welcomed children into this world during the year. Brings a smile to my face each time And yet others have struggled with work (finding, maintaining, running businesses), marriages, family and health. I know many have been battling since 2009/10 and are just tired of the daily, weekly, monthly, yearly grind to tread water let alone take a step forward. I am on the phone and e-mail with many members during the course of the week and sometimes it is heartbreaking. All this leads me to a great mate who came in last week. business struggling, marriage on the rocks, debts mounting. We had a cigar and a glass of wine. He was as genuinely effervescent as always and I said how it was a pleasure to be a mate of someone who lives his life seeing everything as "glass half full" "Glass half Full?" he said looking at me like I was an idiot. "Bugger that mate, I fill the glass to the top....drink down to halfway and fill it up again!!!!!" Just wanted to share with those who are going through a tough spot. Heads up. You have mates here. Cheers El Pres.
Munts Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Hear hear!! I know that for myself and i shall borrow from the Queen here, but 2012 is not a year on which I shall look back with undiluted pleasure. It has turned out to be an Annus Horribilis. I often think of the story about King Solomon and the golden ring which read... "this too shall pass". It has been a crappy year... but it shall pass.
Fuzz Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I know that for myself and i shall borrow from the Queen here, but 2012 is not a year on which I shall look back with undiluted pleasure. It has turned out to be an Annus Horribilis. Yep, those proctological exams can be shcocking! All we can do is keep the faith and hope for a better year.
AndrewNR Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I certainly am glad to be a part of this community and be growing a place into it as time and other factors permitt. It's a great place we're all contributing too here, Full of fantastic genuine people. Rob's kinda like the mermaid abrest on the front of our great cigar pirate ship sailing through the australian red sea of government condemnation. Dashing mermaid you make, Rob.
smokum Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Great post Prez. I just became a granpa ! After enduring some nasty divorce crap for the past 4 years this little girl snapped me out of a funk. Tuned up and took inventory in the humi . Installed heat in the garage and set up chairs for me and a couple buds. Its time to get back into action.
dicko Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 You're a legend Rob. Always with a helping hand or ear!
ned Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I am very glad to be a part of this site. the comradery amongst the fellow botl's and sotl's is great. it is nice to be part of something that is so great.
demiurgic Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Hear Hear Rob! Your way of making a living and Joie De Vivre (and Vine) is an inspiration. Actually, I try to emulate some of the stuff, save the liver damage. Being 33, I want to put some miles on the thing first. Thanks for the consistantly positive note along the years mate ~ A.G
Bartolomeo Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Great post Rob! My Divorce was finalized in Feb, kicking ass at work and the ladies have treated me well......so life is good right now and looking forward to a great 2013 Stay positive everybody! Bart
Justmi Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I've lost my finance job this year as part of their "restructuring efforts to lower costs and shore up the share price..." They even sat us down and told us how this positively impacts the bank, like we should be happy for them!!! But I've just finished my debut novel and I can't wait to pitch it to some agents. Smoking a H Upmann Robusto (travel humi) to celebrate. Good luck will come eventually, no?
Charltonc Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I was promoted to clinical director of substance abuse at the agency and I got engaged= more responsibilities. This is good and bad. I miss the days of working at a cigar store in Florida and coming home to my studio apartment and eating fried chicken in bed.
CigarAsh Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 My own business and industry has been under great pressures the past few years. Lots of change because of the political landscape here in the US. I often wonder if my business can survive. But I wrote an article for a trade magazine with one quote that I firmly believe, "With great change comes great opportunity." If I'm smart, work hard (and smoke good cigars!) I can capitalize on a lot of new opportunities.
bigharpoon Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Thanks for the camaraderie, pres! 2012 has been a trying year for me to say the least. I've spent a lot of time and money in court, a place nobody ever likes going to. I truly believe cigars help me keep my sanity and appreciation for the good things in life. There is always a lot to be grateful for. All in all, we've got it pretty good I'd say. Cheers everyone!
asudevil08 Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Cheers to you prez - thanks for the kind words and gracious thoughts.
Orion21 Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Watch it in full. This speech has changed a lot of peoples lives.

Bring on 2013 already

Squarehead Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 If you're down on your luck you can count your true friends on one hand.Treasure those ones.I have been through hell and came back.It wasn't pleasant but I came back. Now if live would be fair we all would drive a Mercedes.Today, I follow the Dogs Philosophy,If you can't eat it,drink it, f#$k it,Piss on it.Works well for me.
IcedCanuck Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 2012 sucked, can't wait for this year to be over.
shiva13 Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 love your attitude rob. 2012 wasnt great for me either. started a new job and its been an absolute nightmare. BUT I got a great wife, a beautiful 4 year old daughter I'm mad about and a new baby on the way. On top of that I have a great new CC habit developing nicely. My new years resolution is to drink more fine cognacs. Cant wait for 2013, bring it on. Dont let the bast@rds grind you down!
