Chris7 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Hi all, just wondering what everyone else does in there spare time. Obviously we are all here because of a shared love of cigars, but I am curious to know what other hobbies everyone has. Apologies if I am dragging up an old thread, did a quick search and couldn't find much. I am a keen fisherman, guitarist, I brew and keg homebrew beer, and I also fly radio controlled planes.
backslide Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Cars (Audi), electronics, online gaming, craft beer, working out
CaptainQuintero Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Reading, Classical music/Opera, online gaming, painting and general crafty arty-farty stuff, toilet humour. Used to do AIkido, field hockey, football and rugby but stopped when I got into my 20s. Cigars are far more fun anyway! Anyway cigars aren't a hobby, it's a lifestyle! What sort of planes do you fly? I've always loved the idea of having a remote control Lancaster bomber model. I always remember watching a remote control 'war' when I was little with pyrotechnics, people sitting inside ships (about 6 foot long) driving them about in a lake and people flying over dropping fake bombs etc, great fun!!
Chris7 Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 Quite a mix of hobbies it seems. CaptainQuintero I only fly electrics a lot of cessna type foamies as well as a Precision Aerobatics Addiction balsa plane that thing is unreal to fly, a real handful but a lot of fun.. I have had all sorts of foamies though warbirds etc. Im also a big scotch fan, don't so much collect, but try new ones when possible.
Blakes Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Another guitarist here, music of course, walking in the fells.. (lucky to have the beautiful english lake district right on my doorstep) some fishing now n then, a keen cook and an even keener drinker
CaptainQuintero Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 You got into into looking at RC crashes on youtube, I think my favourites so far are: and 1
Chris7 Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 Haha nice. I love watching videos like that, however, terrible feeling walking away from the field with a bag of splinters or foam haha.
Overproof Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Baseball/Basketball cards and memorabilia. I also collect scotch and movies. Training regularly, play baseball/softball and basketball. Cigars are number one right now though. I have a **** load of cards from the 90's at the old girls house just gathering dust. Some of the cash I used to get for them cards back in the day was crazy!!I've still got some good rookie cards from memory. Wonder if they are worth anything??They were so mass produced back in the 'Boom' era that I figured they wouldn't be. I guess my other hobby would be me buying Hip-Hop vinyl for a long time now. I'm not a hard out collector, I dont need doubles of everything or a complete back catalogue of particular artists but I love digging in op shops and going to record fairs and what not. I got a filthy sneaker addiction too. Mainly Nike's from the 90's and Jordans!! Another expensive hobby. Starting to think I got problems

Guest rob Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Being a borderline Obsessive Compulsive... Hobbies aren't great for me. Generally speaking, I thoroughly and actively engage in or collect: Golf (try for twice a week) Espresso Coffee; from roast to drink Hi end audio / vinyl; oh my lord this is addictive! Guitar / music Silver age comic collecting Original comic art Comic statues Powerlifting and weightlifting ; the dedication and discipline required is ridiculously difficult to maintain all year round Whiskey, cognac, and red wine Gardening; I enjoy most of my cigars in the garden
hebbe72 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Flyfishing and Aikido. Not time for much else even though I have an unsound interest in model railways but have not yet gone down that path...

bolivr Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Hmm, some common threads here. I also like music, cars, vintage audio, liquor (neat spirits, beer, wine), electronics and what I can only describe as life as a work in progress
Hazza Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Wow, I feel really boring now! I too play guitar, but not as much as I would like anymore. I love movies, my mates call me a walking IMDB, I tend to get a bit obsessed. Music is a huge part of my life, I like lots of different artists/genres yet punk rock is what really gets me excited. I really enjoy cooking to the point where I get excited about buying cookware, I know, lame right.
kuzi16 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 i just finished my first batch of home brew. I enjoy cooking quite a bit. other than that i just find myself working a lot.
Chris7 Posted October 30, 2012 Author Posted October 30, 2012 Kuzi, what beer did you brew for your first batch? and are you going all grain or just the tins of extract? I only brew with the extract as I find I get very pleasant results and now I just experiment with the flavours. For example I made a passionfruit lager to try and get the missus to drink beer. She still doesn't, but I have ended up with a surprisingly enjoyable beer.
NJP Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Lowbrow art. Foreign currency trading. Gold and Silver. Oh and now that I'm grown up vintage BMX.

Jszeto Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 During the warm weather, I play Slow Pitch Softball. Other free time activities include basketball and weight training.
canadianbeaver Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Matthew and I have a pretty nice art collection going. In the city we hang modern art, and in the country we hand vintage Canadian art. We also like collectible antiques we buy at auction. Last week we scored some pretty amazing turn of the century French pottery. No one in the rural auction knew what it was, but we research the items online on our phones before bidding. Turns out the stuff is pretty valuable. Alcide Chaumeil Faience Quimper Pottery, 1890-1919. Up to $100 a piece for the smaller items. We paid $30 a piece for all.
ptrthgr8 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 My number one passion is gun collecting. The primary focus of my collection is military in nature - the vast majority of my collection is from the early-mid part of the 20th Century (WW1, inter-war period, WW2). I've got rifles and pistols from the US, Australia, England, Canada, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Yugoslavia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Persia, Egypt, and Argentina. I’ve recently gotten interested in antique arms, so my collection currently spans the 1860s to the present (I’m not including any of my reproduction flintlocks as originals). I’m a collector and a shooter, though in the last couple of years I’ve done a lot more collecting than shooting. Hockey is my next passion – the Detroit Red Wings are my #1 team, but I also love rooting for our local University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux. There is no better sport than hockey, IMHO. I used to be massively involved with RC car racing back in junior high and high school – used to race the 1/12th scale carpet burners (the Associated RC12L was my go-to car back then – that’s how long ago it was!) and dabbled in some of the 1/10th scale parking lots club racers after that. (The parking lot series wasn’t really much of a challenge coming from the 1/12th scale world.) In the last few years I’ve purchased a couple of electric planes and a heli because I thought they would be fun, but I’ve proven more adept at crashing than flying, so I think I’ll stick to the ground vehicles if I ever get back into it. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
