Just smoked a D5.

Its midweek and winter here so the format looked right.

I was really looking forward to it but cant help feeling underwhelmed.

Smoked OK but wasnt exciting in any way.

The D4s I smoked were more enjoyable.

!LOL! I am a little tardy as usual spotlight.gif

Goalie was talking about the LE which I have always bagged. He was kind enough to send a few through to sample and I found them to be meduim full buggers with some real Partagas sweet paprika / bell pepper flavours.

I have been smoking the Partagas SD5 for the past month. I have gravitated to them as my first cigar of the day. I like the size. I also find them to be under medium bodied...a lighter form of the D4 which to me is generally Medium bodied. They lack a little personality. I would prefer a Partagas Short or a Boli PC. Perhaps that is simply my liking for fuller bodied cigars....or simply cigars with personality.

Construction/consistency is generally good as I haven't had a plugged one yet.

Overall an 87 cigar. One to visit occasionally. Not one for my regular rotation.

Bought a box at a LFTH a while back and the word was the price was a rip based on the price per inch compared to the PSD4. A valid point but those were not what was up for sale.

May have been that box, or my imagination, but they were really nice and recent PSD4's? Not so much.

I tried an EL SD5 last week. I don't know if that cigar is representative of all EL SD5, but it was garbage.

Received a box of the regular production SD5 this week, and the one I sampled was much better. I can potentially see Rob's argument for lacking character, but I'll let them rest up a bit before making any judgement.

I think the main point with all these short/petit robusto type cigars is that they have to hit stride right from the get go, if not then they have lost the battle right away. The good ones seem to get this consistently, eg the new Upmann half corona things, Hoyo SRs etc..

I found the D5 not too bad as a short robusto. Not too different to the D4 especially if your pressed for time and you want an awesome smoke!

This D5 is great in my opinion. Maybe a little short, but so far more consistent in flavor then the D4 of late. Also it is just a little less earthy and more creamy. I like that, I was missing that in D4s (old D4s seem to produce the creaminess, but where can one find aged D4s?

(off-topic) The new E2 is a disaster, smoked 4 now and never got past half of the stick. will not try them again. D5 is a keeper!

My experience and opinion on the matter is quite the opposite.

I completely agree with this but why don't we expect this from the longer sticks also?

The word on the street in Havana is that the D5 is for the chop next year!
