So a month or so ago I mentioned that I was doing both Tough Mudder (a 20km Army type obstacle course complete with more varieties of mud than you'd think existed) and a 8km fun run dressed in the full Superman lycra costume. I thought I'd check back in and report that I survived and did much better at both than I thought I would!

Tough Mudder was all kinds of Hell. The premise was on 'teamwork'- you are not supposed to run off and finish without your team, no matter how slow and annoying they are. The 20km course featured monkey bars, km's of up-stream river wading, log carrying, "Berlin Walls", 10,000v electrocution wires (at low amperage- they just spazz your body out) and MUD MUD MUD. I went in thinking I was going to need to be carried out, but the hardcore training allowed me to not only finish, but sign up to the February edition. A couple of photos:

I had a weekend off (well, a weekend I had to work) then this Sunday just passed I ran in the fun-run "Run for the Hills". It was an 8km hilly course which I ran for charity completely dressed as Superman. It was VERY difficult: I ran 10-14km in practice, but felt the effects of fatigue MUCH quicker clad in lycra, as you would imagine. It was awesome- not just the run, but the families with childeren out the front of their houses all cheering me on! The smiles on their faces as I pretended to fly past was EPIC. I won best dressed (lol!) and raised the most money individually for the foundation. I did the course in 38:45 and came 25 \ 415. A few photos:

Anyhoo, I just wanted to share the good stuff- I'm not a sporty person, nor was I very fit, so I am pretty chuffed I managed to get in shape for both events... next step? Half marathon!

Clark Kent was normal....

Well done mate. You have far more initiative, perseverance and ambition than me!

Bad-ass man. Good for you! Thanks for sharing that. Tough Mudder makes a marathon look easy by comparison.

You obviously have a big heart and in that second last shot, you look as though your built like a brick xhit house as well . :)

well done Ryan! that is a great effort on your part.

and i'm glad you chose lycra and not a mankinnie.

Congratulations! Bel effort ! Besides this trophy will not take too much space in your home!

All the best,

THANKS GUYS!!! Really appreciate all your messages. I've been told they have made it an annual event, and have asked Superman to return (if I'm up for it) next year.

I dare say he'll be there ;)

:rotfl:

I feel exhausted just looking at the pictures! Well done!

Maybe you can persuade the Czar team to join you next year, with cigar break/review half way around the course! :2thumbs:

I would LOVE to see this... and be a part of it!

Sounds great. I signed up for tough mudder in Tampa Dec 1 excited.

You will have an absolute ball. I was a little anxious that it was going to be WAY to difficult, but if you have moderate fitness and a strong ambition to finish it will be fine... best of luck, I'd love to hear how you go!

For a new challenge you could do the February tough mudder in the superman suit?

That WOULD be a tough gig... if I can find a cheap Superman suit that I can destroy I will consider it- no clothes survive the course: I still have mud under my toenails despite soaking, picking, filing, cutting etc. Clothes are a write off lol.

Well done Superman thumbsup.gif

Next time Diana falls into your lap at a function I expect you will be able to pick her up with your pinky finger !LOL!

$40-50 on eBay... though, the Supergirl costume is cheaper.

Gawd, I can't imagine the craziness of some people doing this for fun. When I have to do an obstacle course like this for work, and getting paid to do it, with all the relevant gear and training, it's still nerve wracking. The amount of injuries, and level/severity, are mind-numbing numbers sometimes. I know that the charity awareness/fundraising does make it very worthwhile however.

Good on ya. Suped-da-man done be krazy! Well done.
