PoohBore Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 The oldest cigar I have smoked was awful! But to be fair it's from the 40's
Nino Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Have smoked 100 yr old cigars ( German-Alsatian dry cigars ) that were procured by a friend at an auction - tasted like hay and not much to write home about. Vintage cigars ( over 15-20 yrs old ) that were excellent and have been some of the best I've smoked, like a 1970's Cohiba Lancero in Hong Kong that's been my BEST cigar so far. A few months back I smoked a SOL Aromosos Imperiales Habanos from the mid-1930's courtesy of MRN that was sublime.
CaptainQuintero Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 The oldest cigar I have smoked was awful! But to be fair it's from the 40's lol wtf Nazi cigars?!
Nino Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 lol wtf Nazi cigars?! Those are not "Nazi" Cigars. Those are German cigars ( of different origin ) that have a tax seal with a Nazi Emblem.
CaptainQuintero Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I don't know, if someone stamped an eagle clutching a swastika onto a German wristwatch in the 1940's I'd probably call it a nazi wristwatch! I'm not sure how I would feel about smoking said cigars but the pictures are certainly interesting, thanks for posting them PoohBore! Great stuff! ~CQ
Nino Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I don't know, but I guess the Soviets stamped hammer & sickle on their Cuban cigar box tax seals, wouldn't call them Communist cigars, they were still Cuban cigars .... Not sure how I would feel about smoking said cigars, but they'd be certainly interesting ...
PoohBore Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I have 2 boxes but I've left one sealed. I got them as a conversation piece for my curio shelf in my cabinet humi They certainly taste bloody awful !!!
mk05 Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 I have been fortunate enough to smoke some old cigars. That said, expired is expired. At that point, charm starts to trade in for flavor haha

Nino Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 From a November 2003 post on my site smoking 100 year old dry cigars : Diese waren noch in der Originalverpackung eines Zigarrenhändlers Otto Sennhauser aus Strassburg/Elsass „Hamburger / Bremer Zigarrenspezialitäten" und in einem Ziplock-Bag verpackt. Auf der Rückseite der Packung waren die verschiedenen Formate und Preise angezeigt, die von 8 bis 40 Pfennig reichten. Wir versuchten die Zigarren, sie zogen noch, schmeckten auch etwas, aber waren natürlich nur ein sehr schneller Zug aufgrund des trockenen Tabaks. Trotzdem eine interessante Erfahrung. In English : These were still in the original packaging of a cigar merchant named Otto Sennhauser from Strassburg/Alsace " Hamburger / Bremer Zigarrenspezialitäten " and packed in a ziplock bag. On the back side of the packaging were the different vitolas and prices shown, they ranged from 8 to 40 Pfennig (Cents). We tried the cigars, they still drawed, tasted a bit, but were only a very quick draw due to the dry tobacco. Still an interesting experience. A lousy picture of the sorry cigars :

Just thought I better let you know that you've been smoking all those communist cigars.
mk05 Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Nino, did you ever try one of Shaw's 100+ yr old Partagas/Bolivar/HU from the humidor Desmond found?
Nino Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 You are aware that Cuba is still a communist country yes? Just thought I better let you know that you've been smoking all those communist cigars. No kidding, is that really so , Seriously, what I meant is that the tax seal does not impregnate the cigars with the ruling political ideology at the time to make them "Nazi", "Soviet", "Batista", "Capitalist" or whatever cigars, they are just that : cigars. Now, slowly explain that myth about Cuba being commie again Nino, did you ever try one of Shaw's 100+ yr old Partagas/Bolivar/HU from the humidor Desmond found? No, too many cigars, too little time ...
