1985 H Upman Monarch. about a year ago. It was fantastic. Smooth creamy Upman with surprising strength

Geesh, I'm a bit behind the rest of you all. I've just smoked what I've bought for the most part. That would put me at an 2006 box of Monte 2's, still have probably 6 of them left.

Jose de Gener - Longo from 1980' - I think purchased 12 years ago from famous B&M swiss but it was a bit dried and tasteless.

?There's still some of those around??? I had its sister, La Escepcion around that year and a long & skinny sometime around 1998. It too was dried and tasteless :thumbsdwn:

Sorry it was La Escepcion Longo as you mentioned, at that time it was collectible cigar and very hard to find. But that B&M shop sell for cheap price because they were in bad condition and I couldn't revitalized them even take 2 years.

Nothing like the true aged and old school cubans but I've had a:

99 Cazadores- last of the fiver I smoked last year and it was in my top 5 all time. One of the fiver was terribly plugged the others were perfect so I know I got lucky. Smooth but still had an amazing 5yrs prob still left on it but I like em strong, it also had an amazing richness to it.

00-Party Coronas another in my top 5. Words cant describe how good this cigar was and even the other years I had after and how bad I want them back.

97 BPC- This cigar blew me away at how developed yet how strong it still was. All the flavors just intertwined but with power and spice I wish they all could be this way.

99 Punch SS#2- My fav cigar of all time bar none but thats just me. The last of the fiver I burned last summer and this sucker had balls for another 10yrs all the while providing just a richness that only finely aged tobacco will give amongst a plethora of other flavors. I'd kill to have a cab of these but if you can find em theyre uber expensive.

I'm still sitting on a single RA898, late 90's Cohiba Lancero, and a couple late 90's and early 00's BBF's. I find it hard to bring myself to smoke these especially the RA898 since they're gone and I'll never have another. Oh I also have one more 07' BCE from a box that was so amazing I thought I'd be able to get more but it looks like this one may be the last of my fav cigar of all time. Sorry for rambling Good thread.

1868 West End Cigar, very old tasting, but pretty good stick for how old it was. Also liked these and have about 12 left of these 1930's Gray Bonnet as pictured below. I also have smoked thousands of clear havanas and a couple hundred pre embargo sticks. One thing I have learned is stick to the sealed boxes or tins if you can, just my 2 cents. yes.gif

Lis, you should stock up on ERDM

Please expand. Is ERDM the same blend wise or do you find them to be reminiscent of Cuban Davidoff's to your palate? I've heard smoking QdO's are the closest we might get to recapturing the Davidoff taste. The older the better too.

That is my experience. Strong similarities to a QDO with reasonable age. One of many reasons why I don't chase Davidoffs. I would rather buy QDO by the box and age them myself.

1907 partagas in a petit pyramide format, with some life still left in it, at a herf in Manhattan in 2008.

I smoked the Arcos from the 1940's with Dball as well.

I sampled some Don Candidos and Don Alfredos, and I have a box intact and full of clear havanas from 1955.

I sampled many many cigars from the 1970's in PPP's.

I sampled a few Dunhill seleccions from the 60's.

I have a few erdm's from 1983, and a whole bunch of 1998's in my humidor.

Also Jimmy2 gave me some pre embargo Flor De Farachs

I smoked a punch perfecto shaped cigar that was from the 20s or 30s. And many other cubans of those decades. Really enjoyed them. Not too many left this day and age.

Many pre embargos, such as La Corona (didn't really enjoy those), Cabanas (liked those), H upmanns from the 30s and 40s, la flor de lis pre embargos from the 40s, HDM, and many many more.

My favorite would have to be the H upmanns, partagas, punch, por larranaga, henry clay, and other classic brands. Especially the Don alfredos, don candidos, etc. I enjoyed Davidoff Dom Perignons, also. Classy sticks. I had a few Flor de Cano Short Churchills that were incredible. Worth the price I paid.

But I have found that over half of those sticks at those prices are just outrageous. Some do surprise you and bring incredible bursts of flavor and complexity, but it's taking a HUGE risk.

Lots of money I have wasted over the years on hundreds of clear havanas, pre embargos, etc that just weren't up to par. Some were worth it though.

Id say don't waste 50-100 on a single cigar without knowing forsure that it's an amazing stick. From my experience, 3 out of every 5 aged cuban is not up to par. Only a small %

But for the oldest has to be the previously mentioned West End 1868, which to my surprise, for a cigar with almost 150 yrs of age at the time, was very good!

Just some pics of a few oldies out of my collection...

This is the oldest box I own currently. From 1909. They smoke alright, more of a novelty though over a 100+ year old cigar.

This is a DR cigar brand that this box of 10 was from 1988, they smoke incredibly.

These are three 9" long coffined clear havanas from 1940s/50s. They are from a brand Garcia y Vega which is now a mass produced **** brand. But at one point there were a few cigars commissioned that were all cuban tobacco and these are some of them. They smoke great. The smell is fantastic. So complex.

Here are 3 Romeo y Julieta Club Kings from the 1960s/70s. I have many of these aluminum cases. I enjoy the flavor of these. Hard to come across nowadays. They are sitting on top of one of my pre embargo humidors.

If anyone in London wants a vintage smoke, I was in Boisdales in Canary Wharf this afternoon looking for a good smoke and the guy showed me a half box of 2001 San Cristobal El Morros. I did not pay anymore than the standard price for one. For a medium cigar of that age, it was nice and smooth. Worth a try if you're around there.

Hey Derrek,

the flavors are in dolby stereo. LOL (I deleted accidental repost)

I was still asleep when Ajay passed out those epic old cigars, as I went to bed at 5, and the vintage tasting was at 9a.m.

Some of the best and oldest smokes I sample are during the yearly Xmas herf in Manhattan, with AllanB.

btw, I do not pay more than retail for cigars younger than 2005, Aged, to me, is 10 -15 years.

Vintage is 15 years plus, but each person has their own definitions and terms.

1870's Trinidad.

;):P

Seriously....1980's Monte 2 (not exactly sure which year, think maybe '86?), back in the late 90's when I was first getting into cigars. After my step-away in the early 2000's, and then back in 2005 or so, since then....oldest would probably be an early 1990's Punch. I think it was a RS No. 11, from 1992 or so.

I had a 1994 Montecristo No.4. Excellent cigar! Other than that, I've had some '99 Partagas Churchill de Luxe and '01 Cohiba Lanceros.
