Who wants a better overall lineup of cigars that stick around for longer with less duds, crap put into smaller cigars and plugged sticks... or more LEs and REs? Discuss.

Those Lusi GR will be fantastic! I am still waiting for my box of the RYJ Churchill GR

Monte petit 2's could be interesting, as long as they stay under 48RG

Will any of the 2013 be under 48RG?? Hopefully yes probabilty low.

So we're going to have a "regular" sublime with the Bolivar Libertador? Loved the RE France.

One can only dream...

Most variations of a 42 RG, and panatelas as well, are continuously being chopped. If you don't like smoking donkey dong cigars, with 2 bands, and a price of 20-30 bucks a stick.... then you are SOL!

In years to come, it seems like any "small" cigars will be only be made of scraps ;) ... and no longer offered in quality, handmade versions.

We had that. That's the way it used to be. But what's past is past. This is the Habanos world we live in now. :(

I agree, its the way it is. Lets face it, they get more coin for doing it this way. I cannot blame them. There is one island, one main set of fields supplying the tobacco. They either roll more limited blends and special collections or use those choice leaves to enrich the overall line up. Has LEs and REs eaten into the quality of your favorite smokes? Has discontinuing favorite vitolas encouraged more buying just in case your favorite vitola disappears from the shelves? Maybe.

Who can blame them? I, for one, can.

Me too!!!

...not that it makes even one iota of difference to HSA...

I hope it never comes to it but I can envisage a day in the future when I'll have to step back from this hobby/passion.....I just don't have the income to support the buying of RE's,EL's,Reservas this and Gran Reservas that, even if I wanted to.

It's interesting to note that Punch is getting a EL for the first time.

Has anyone tried the Punch Serie D'Oro No. 1 ER UK from 2008? I wonder if they'll have a similar blend.

I cannot blame them as if I was running the business, I would do the same. Same leaves, higher returns yet happy consumers with their limited edition boxes. I just hope they can focus a bit more effort to ensure we don't get those dog sticks we paid good coin for and they can revive some vitolas currently out of the spotlight that need attention. Cubans cigars with the same attention to detail that the Padron family have to their produce? Wouldn't that be good.

Please cite your source. Unless you can cite a credible source, this info is bullshit to me (except for the RA Imperiales Replica Antigua, which was announced earlier).

And there is already a "Connoisseur" in SLB 25 in the Upmann line…

piggy you wanna field this one?

... a losing marketing strategy, executed by goose-stepping morons because they don't know any better. The marketing talent left the island when tyrants arrived. Or... maybe those who understand the cigar business just are not party members!!! Look at who is following whom, now 50 years later.

I would rather sell 100's of thousands of cigars to dedicated followers, regular smokers who have supported the product for years at reasonable prices, than 10's of thousands of less committed, occasional smokers who will abandon the product in an instant for the next trend at higher prices.

Smoking is a billion dollar business not because of the rich... It is due to volume and the introduction of new smokers, ones that can mature and progress in the product line. This model is a loser and it will continue to cost them market share to the ex-pats who seem to understand both trends and variety.

It is hard for Americans to get a good sense of the world cigar market since we don't have the option to buy Habanos in our local cigar shops. However, I get the sense that whether the world consumer really views NCs as a market alternative to CCs or not, HSA pays attention to their offerings to be competitive.

You look at what a company like Padron has done with its main regular production line of cigars as well as constantly producing increasingly expensive special editions. The limited editions get people excited about the brand, whether they can afford them or not, in the hopes that they will pick any product from the brand over another brand. Maybe HSA feels it has to respond with some firepower in order to keep from just seeming boring and a middle tier product in the market. Not that they are the authority on cigars, but Cigar Aficionado seemed to favor, increasingly so, "high quality" limited edition NC offerings over CCs. It wasn't until the launch of the Behike that Cuba won a Cigar of the Year award in a while. They have a big readership whether accurate or not.

It might just be out of necessity to compete that this is an inevitable and irreversable shift to LEs, REs and other specials just like the shift to bigger cigars to satisfy the whims of the "market". I just wonder what it says about our community here. Is it that we are old school and out of touch with these changes and don't represent the larger market? Or is HSA alienating their most devoted fans in hopes of expanding their market or making short term cash? Interestingly I like the specials but I buy cigars for the cool bands and elite status and not for taste and consistency...

Mate... it is not a one or the other scenario! You can satisfy both. Tabacuba chooses not to do so. I will leave the reason to your vivid imagination!
