sengjc Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Having this brew at the moment from one of the smaller an Aussie breweries: Just a question to the more knowledgeable beer/ale folk: Double or not, is it usual for IPA to be of amber in colour? I always thought IPA is supposed to be pale, as in Indian Pale Ale. While refreshing and fruity, it is not as crisp and bitter as I always imagined IPA to be. In fact, it has a nuttiness that I usually associate with amber ale. Wrongly labelled, you think?
sengjc Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 And now this last one for the night: Very aptly named "chocolate" porter. It does have cocoa hints in its profile.

I'm not sure about the Aussie beer scene but the US IPA has become an class of beer with multiple tastes, colors, ingredients. In fact, a West Coast IPA (Pliny the Elder) may have little in common with an East Coast IPA (Cigar City's Jai Alai) for example. I just enjoy the variety ........... FJ
dangolf18 Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Paulaner Hefeweizen for me. Don't understand you IPA drinkers. Haven't found an IPA that hasn't been super bitter. 1
LGC Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Paulaner Hefeweizen for me. Don't understand you IPA drinkers. Haven't found an IPA that hasn't been super bitter. I gotta agree. Bitterness kills my palate. You won't find an IPA in my fridge. 1

fokker4me Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 Just enjoyed some Troges Mad Elf. Very malty and expresso like.
sengjc Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Liga Privada the Undercrown Corona Viva. Paired with some Orcadian ale: Skull Splitter. If the Highland Park distillery were to stop producing malt whisky tomorrow, I wouldn't worry much as the Skull Splitter would ensure the island is known worldwide.
HabanoHam Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Very nice and fruity for the warm weather. I really enjoy the Hitachino Nest offerings, their red rice ale is great!
HabanoHam Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Just cracked open a bottle of Shorts Bludgeon Yer Eye Black IPA and it smells wonderful
