CaptainQuintero Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I was in London in Jan/Feb 2011 and searched for Partagas Coronas, Lonsdales, Petit Coronas and other vintage Partys. The answer was the same everywhere: "They have been discontinued (Yes, I know) and are not available anymore." If there's still a large quantity of those boxes in stock everywhere, then who else they can blame than themselves? Having a shop and not selling a problem product that is asked by the customer... Yeah, for sure! Maybe they just didn't like the look of you There are some London cigar stores that are so tossery that they treat you like dirt unless you come in with a sharp handmande suit, school tie and clipped upper class accent. Some won't give shelf space to anything other than the major brands either. You'll not find sdc 1,2 anywhere in the UK unless you request them specially, long and skinny isn't fashionable at all or encouraged for some reason. Eg LGC isn't even imported what so ever. A few places have the #3 still. One shop I was talking to the manager to and he had a cab of sdc #1s sitting around for about three years, over the course of that time he smoked them all himself apart from the odd couple as no one would try them. Don't get me wrong there are some fantastic stores with fantastic staff but sadly they are the minority. There are some terrible stores in the UK that don't deserve to stay open, they encourage snobbery, being a big flashy wanker and will snort in derision at you if you you even ask about anything not Cohiba/Monte/Party/Upmann. lol I remember pestering and complaining one place just to get the to import a few boxes of QDO (QDO didn't exist in the UK until this Christmas) and the owner just didn't understand why I wanted them. First he tried the 'Well have you tried every cigar in the UK catalogue first?' -Yes. So he moved onto 'Well why do you want to try something mild? If I want a mild smoke I just smoke a Juan Lopez #2' He eventually imported them and the other stores around the UK started stocking some as a result. I never bought a box off the first guy, I just waiting till Rob's Irish friends had them and bought off them instead!!

Maybe those shops just have enough customers. I would do business in a bit different way, but I don't mean that they'd do something wrong - well, I just don't say it.
Ghabanos Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I can't imagine a company canceling a line so quickly after rolling it out. Are these just old el that couldn't be sold? They must really not understand their customers. Btw. The 898 disctoniuation makes no sense to me
CaptainQuintero Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 lol who knows, we'll just have to wait for the confirmation/denial from HSA, and then the subsequent three confirmation/denials to figure out what's happening!
CaptainQuintero Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 E2...hard to find in stock. Which country? Maybe we could work up an idea of the worldwide picture
jedipastor Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Trinidad seems to sit on the shelf here in Japan. Cohiba, Monte, and R&J are the big sellers, and I've never even seen anything from RA, SCdlH, Dip, of any of the other smaller brands except RG and Quintero. They're also REALLY into Tubos here. But that's all based on my VERY limited experience, and I live in the hicks too. Prices here are insane so I don't buy unless it's a single of something specific I want to try.
dB69 Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Internet chat rooms at its membership are not the only people who smoke cigars. The people who pay big bucks for cigars, tend to want the "best" because they can afford the "best". Hence Cohiba, REs and ELs. Few of us here, can afford to go to the LCDH to pick up a box of 898s. But the people who can afford to, don't want a little known Partagas, they want a "rare" special edition or a famous Cohiba. Sad but true. Most of those wealthy persons don't even know the best things in life, they just believe they do. Maybe someone should tell them. They may not be very interested to hear it though.. For example the discontinued Partagas Princess I'm currently smoking is a heavenly cheap cigar and beats any Cohiba any time. Back to the original subject. 898, Presidentes and RASCC will make me very sad if the rumour happens to be true.
Michel1968 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Spoke a manager from CubaCigar (Benelux distributor) Diplo 2 is out, RASCC is out, rest is unsure except E2 which will continue. Aaaannnd, Trinidad is said to be axed. BUT he said the information from Cuba has never been this chaotic so... fingers crossed for 898!!!

Matt Day Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Curious sad if the rasscc is definitely out however there is a lot of speculation flying around atm the moment then these could be deletions being discussed or whatever. I am not holding out hope, just saying probably best to wait till it has finally been announced.
backslide Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 This is total b.s. I guess that I'll need to make another RASCC purchase sooon!
ramon_cojones Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 same here i'll need to cop about 4 boxes
smokinpeace Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I would still love to hear the Pres weigh in on this. Sure would be nice to know whether it is time to stock up.
El Presidente Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I would still love to hear the Pres weigh in on this. Sure would be nice to know whether it is time to stock up. I haven't weighed in simly because I am getting mixed messages. Unlike previous years, there is no offiicial HSA list that I have been able to get. In discussions I have had, the RASCC is under serious threat. Sadly to say the Dip 2 as well. Once I have anything concrete (in writing), I will let you all know. I may not be the first to get it so if anyone else gets an official distributor/HSA discontinuation list then please post it here. The last thing I want to do (as has been done by others in the trade before) is start a run on something.
jrb5783 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I've been trying to find RASCC for a while and every where i go they are out of stock would anyone mind Pming me a vendor that has them in stock

smokinpeace Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Thanks for posting what you can Pres. I am sure no one here will accuse you of trying to start a run on anything. Thank you for doing the best you can to let us know.
Guest rob Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 My logic may be off.... But starting a run on something may be the best thing to do to prevent discontinuation. It is lack of sales that causes a cigar to be put on he chopping block.

It is lack of sales that causes a cigar to be put on he chopping block. I disagree Rob. There are other reasons, one is poor management of assets including customers. Tabacube has abandoned (all but) the entry premium cigar market. They are apparently convinced that there are no new customers. Ones that might want a shorter smoke, a lesser expensive premium smoke to see if they like the experience of Habanos. They figure that since the labor to produce one cigar roughly equals that of any other cigar, they should only produce the more expensive cigars. That you as a consumer will forget about the RASCC and simply buy another box of robustos at 1.3x the cost of the smaller cigar. They don't really care that you like them. They believe you are too infatuated with their other products to know that they are gone. They are in essence not serving you with choices. They are not catering to you as a consumer. They are telling you what to buy. Early on I bought into the 'they don't sell' line of BS. Frankly I believe that Tabacuba has contempt for their customers and believes that we will buy whatever crap they put out. That is why they produce so much crap... They have the resources to cater to everyone. They store tobacco now, just so that it can be damaged during the next big hurricane! How stupid is that? Instead of modern inventory control, flooring product to move it to distributors, setting price marks so that cigars are priced competitively, so that there is a demand for a range of cigars at various prices, they allow many cigars to go unsold because they have no ideas on how to run a business!!! JMHO. Cheers. -Ray
ramon_cojones Posted September 13, 2012 Author Posted September 13, 2012 NIce post ray, ya I thought that bit about not selling is a bunch of hogwash.
