ramon_cojones Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Saw someone post a rumor about rascc and 898s on the chopping block, prez can you find out if there's any truth to this? Sounds improbably but you never know with HSA.
JY0 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Here is the list mentioned: Partagas : 8-9-8, D5, E2 & Presidentes SCDLH : All Diplomaticos : No.2 Ramon Allones : Small Club Coronas
Vortigan Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Sounds like the sort of thing they'd do these days.
qman22 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I really hope this doesn't happen. 898 is my favorite Partagas
Ishmael Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Dip #2's?! No way, I don't believe it. In fact any of the above mentioned being discontinued would surprise me. *nervous*
Bartolomeo Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Why Partagas E2 and D5? Those just came out last year
backslide Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I sure hope this isn't true, RASCC is my favorite smoke not to mention my go to.
Michel1968 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 I gotto say this rumor makes me feel somewhat at unease... 898 discontinued??
gersonmorelli Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Why Partagas E2 and D5? Those just came out last year It sure sounds weird. Particularly because they fit well in HSA's growing trend of > 50 ring gauge.
Rushman Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 RASSC and Diplo 2 will break my heart, especially the RASCC. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.631731,-87.070634
baragh Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 yeah sounds a bit weird to cut the rascc as they're bringing in the RG perlas??
Alwayslit Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Wow. It's a shame they are killing all the small rg cigars. I'm not surpised about the dips. I'm surprised the LGC aren't on the list.
El Presidente Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Saw someone post a rumor about rascc and 898s on the chopping block, prez can you find out if there's any truth to this? Sounds improbably but you never know with HSA. Will try and find out over the weekend, early next week. Partagas : 8-9-8, D5, E2 & Presidentes The 898 in 10's I could see being in trouble. A lot of top end packaging for 10 cigars. Makes no sense to me. The E5 was mispriced from the outset (Trinidad Robusto "T" diesease). The D5 a flop. SCDLH : All The principe is the only real seller but I suspect trails all other Minutos. Diplomaticos : No.2 Hard to keep a brand with one cigar. Add a Robusto and bring back the Dip 4. It can be revitalised. Ramon Allones : Small Club Coronas Perhaps only beats the Principe in sales. RASCC have been very hard to find this year in the Asia Pacific.
CaptainQuintero Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Wouldn't be overly surprised with the E2/D5 for sales in the UK, UK based stuff: E2 - 25% more than a CoRo D5 - same price as a Mag 46/short churchill/Dip 2/BRC (Monte espi #2 is cheaper), or pay 50p more and get a D4.... Presidentes - Not classed as an elite cigar so isn't even imported Plenty of RASCC about but all old stock. Dip 2 - Plenty of 1,3,4,5 still about. (Four is starting to trickle out) SCDLH - I'd suspect the sales of the whole marca are essentially null. Greedy price setting is becoming a little too common from H&F recently. Poor business model in terms of only catering to the cash splashers, discouraging lesser known brands (The ones with the smaller profit potentials) and not trying to gain new customers is pretty poor form. I wouldn't be overly surprised if these deltions come about as a result of a phonecall from HSA to the H&F warehouse: "Do you have lots of *Insert cigar that is outside the top 10 for sales here* laying about?" "Yeah we have thousands of boxes!" "Ok, we delete."
kiwiman911 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Wouldn't be overly surprised with the E2/D5 for sales in the UK, UK based stuff: Dip 2 - Plenty of 1,3,4,5 still about. (Four is starting to trickle out) I would just about sell my mother(ok maybe not my mother, but my brother for sure) to get my hands on some Dip 5 you are so lucky in the UK I will probably start looking at a B&M to see
Smallclub Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 This is the 4th time since 2000 the Presidente is rumoured to be discontinued. As for the RASCC, if it's really cut, I guess we can thank the multitude of RA Regionals of approx. the same lenght that use the same leaves…
Diamondog Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Why Partagas E2 and D5? Those just came out last year Got to believe the price point on the E2 has killed sales....I love the cigar but it is pricey...
ramon_cojones Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 I love the rascc, hard to believe they would 86 33% of their reg production lineup especially a favorite such as this.
CaptainQuintero Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 I would just about sell my mother(ok maybe not my mother, but my brother for sure) to get my hands on some Dip 5 you are so lucky in the UK I will probably start looking at a B&M to see lol you'd probably ask for your Brother back when you saw the price ring up on the till!!! I think it's the only reason why there are so many HTF cigars in the UK....it's because they are hard to buy!! Got to believe the price point on the E2 has killed sales....I love the cigar but it is pricey... Agree, I go across the board when looking at similar priced cigars. When Sir Winnies are cheaper why jump for anything else?
LGC Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 This is a good marketing move by them. If you have stuff sitting around, discontinue it. People will fear missing a cigar that they never bothered buying previously. We have seen plenty examples of this since 2002. Personally, I've quit worrying about what band I have on my cigars... as long as they perform well. If you make something a "limited" release and put 2 bands on it, folks will buy it. Jack up the price per stick, put it in a fancy box, and put 10 sticks in the box(instead of 25)... and everyone will be standing in line to get their pre-orders placed. I will quit the hobby before I start paying 15 to 50 dollars for a fresh stick that hasn't been proven.
maverickdrinker Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 mental note: buy as many boxes of RASCC that I can in the next few months....
backslide Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 mental note: buy as many boxes of RASCC that I can in the next few months.... Yup :-(
gersonmorelli Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 I would miss the SCDH... I thoroughly enjoy the Mercadares and the Principes. One of them is already officially gone. Maybe they should include the marca in the RE to try lift sales bringing more visibility to these great cigars.
ramon_cojones Posted August 24, 2012 Author Posted August 24, 2012 I got a couple boxes on ice, may have to cop 4 more.
