geneticdrifter Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 LOL. Nothing like public speaking can bring fear to someone's face. Interesting piece though. I tend to like the more mineral bubbly with cigars. Seems to be a better compliment than the sweeter stuff.

You can find very reasonably priced bottles that are very good (Prosecco, Asti etc) for $15-$25. Most Cuban cigars go really well with them all, especially the sweeter Italian Asti's
Puros Y Vino Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 I'm a big fan of bubbly with cigars. Especially aged cigars. The Champagne really helps to clean the palate and prepare it for the next draws. Subtle flavours are enhanced and never overpower the cigar and vice versa. Some winners. Pretty much any prosecco. Pol Roger, Bollinger Rose. One thing I've noticed, the finer the bubbles the better the pairing.
maverickdrinker Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Rose Champagne is one of my favorite drinks to have with a cigar. Just such a delicious pairing. Bollinger, Gosset, Billecart Salmon, Piper Hiedsieck... All good roses to have with stogies.
Ken Gargett Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 have you met smithy? he is that monumental tosser normally seen with a broom at czars. he told me i had 30 seconds. it went to about 1 min 20 before that crap of being harranged from the side by the two clowns - smithy loves keeping the thing on when he is not on camera. normally, if i go two seconds past, i get endless bile from him. on a more serious note, just done a piece - quite similar to the one here on matching cigars and champagne - for the fine group of mags. not difficult when you do not have an imbecile in control.

However, there are many different sparklers out there for mush less $$$ that go really well with cigars. That was my main point. No need to spend $40 on a bottle of Moet or $120 for some Dom to try them together.

No need to spend $40 on a bottle of Moet or $120 for some Dom to try them together. I also agree with this. In Canada, Champagne is very expensive and forced me to try almost all sparkling available. There are lots of really really good alternatives.
LGC Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Great combo, but I usually drink sparkling wine, not champagne. There a lot of good options at good prices, as stated earlier. I love a cold, sparkling rosé on a warm day.
