Give the man a cigar! This is one of the ultimate techniques. Often overlooked but far more intense than almost any other draw technique. Wilkey

Oooooh, close! Personal preference is the first rule of smoking cigars!!

When I'm drawing on a cigar, I occasionally like to tip the cigar downwards.... and inhale a little bit of the smoke coming off of the foot. I find the aromas to be much more enhanced by the burning

My grandfather used to tell me to draw the smoke, but never inhale. However, expel it little by little, but draw in small amount of cool air after every release of smoke. It cools the smoke still in your mouth and brings out the flavors of the cigars. It works I tell you.

Great advice there. Good Grampa!

Thanks for the tip! Tried this and it takes some concentration, but seems to work.

I do occasionally inhale a very dilute mix of smoke in air. Usually I do this when the smoke is especially fragrant or rich. I draw in the normal way, then slowly push it out through my mouth with my tongue instead of expelling with breath from my lungs, and then inhale through my nose. I'd say for every volume of smoke I push out, I dilute it 5-10 fold. I don't do it with every draw but I do occasionally do this. It gives a different sense of the smoke as compared to pure or diluted retronasal expelling.

This is commonly referred to as the French Inhale.

Wilkey

I do this exact thing IF the cigar is really good.

Was out in LA a few weeks back with a group that smokes pretty much nothing but vintage (20+ years) cigars.

Had a couple I commented I could easily inhale. And did....no ill effects as the smoke was so light, smooth and cool.

Otherwise, never. Are you kidding!

I will say that if the smoke is particularly fragrant and tasty I enjoy taking a good puff, letting it out slowly so that it forms a cloud in front of my face, and then sticking my nose into the cloud to take a whiff. I also really like to wave the foot of a fragrant cigar under my nose to experience the aroma.

But inhaling directly? Hell no!!
