riazp Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Thank you for the clarification Wilkey. Well said, well put.
Puros Y Vino Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Every post, every interaction is insight into the mind, the motives, and the values of the poster. Every statement is evidence and testament to the poster's online character and how that relates to the kind of community and camaraderie Rob Ayala promotes from the deepest depths of his heart. Wilkey I couldn't agree more. I'm not a fan of thread closing for a similar reason. It protects those who need to be called out. Closing a thread because some are putting their feet in their mouth only denies us the chance to see how much further down they can chew.
Nino Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I'm not an expert, just interested in cigars, but as Jedipastor correctly posted : Since when do you have to be an expert to enjoy a cigar? Nino
Colt45 Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I don't see the point of locking threads simply because we don't agree with each other. Discussions here don't get closed because people disagree with one another. They get closed when things get personal or abusive. How much of this discussion has added, in a positive way, to our Forum? Since the discussion was re-opened (at RA's post), has the majority of the continued discussion added in a positive way to our forum? (and yes, I realize I've just added to the nonsense....)
Puros Y Vino Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 How much of this discussion has added, in a positive way, to our Forum? Simple. It brings the wingnuts out into the light.
Nino Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 How much of this discussion has added, in a positive way, to our Forum? Back on topic : I'd love to add in a positive way after my return from visiting some large collector friends in Asia later this month, but guess their answer to presenting their collections in public would be a very loud and clear : No F Way ! Which is why I personally appreciate someone going out of his way showing his collection to the public.
ramon_cojones Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 ^Nino, i don't think this thread had anything to do with their decision that has long been made. I should no longer be amazed at how people don't understand simple comments… Don't be ridiculous, people who own huge cigar collections DON'T post on Youtube, period… (at least in Europe) This thread continues to deliver day after day.
Habano Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Look forward to watching the videos tonight while smoking. Thanks for sharing and posting.
CanuckSARTech Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 ...And let me be clear about one thing. You could be a saint in the physical world, but it's who and how you are here that counts in the long run. That's because when you consider the fact that such a small percentage of the nearly 7,000 members will ever have a chance to meet and establish relationships face-to-face, overwhelmingly what matters to the online community here is what you choose to present as your online self... Very well said, Wilkey. Agreed. And, while I do get both sides of the closed or unlocked threads arguments, I just think it's always in the grey about that line in the sand. When the tone has shifted from the, as Rob and Ross both like to state, "play the ball, not the man" debate-style, and people are inserting their feet in their mouths well past their knees practically, civility has unfortunately gone out the window. I'm just in awe of how often some of the same people get dragged to one side or another on these arguments with some of this stuff - or how many times one particular name or another always seem to be at the root of these types of discourses. Like some people just thrive off of belittling others, being online "verbal bullies". Sad. While many of us agree on many aspects in this cigar hobby, and that's the main basis while we're all here, it's just so unfortunate that manners and good grace go sometimes out the window with a verbal minority as soon as the topics begin to shift.

khomeinist Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Khomi?? WTF??? Seriously brother, I'm shocked at your comments. I'm not sure what has got your scr0te all screwed up, but I hope you're just in a pissy mood that will pass soon. You're better and classier than this mate. I sincerely hope all is well. Rob. I am ok man. Admittedly annoyed that this was re-opened so that cheap shots could be issued. But mostly this is all humor in poor taste. Of course I have to laugh at the saint/sinner judgements being issued. Instead of addressing the actual concepts I brought up, it turned into a dumbski anti-intellectual sycophant festival. I agree with some of the drama critique. My bad. I get it that this is probably not the right forum to address certain topics in depth. Rich. Enjoy your cigars. Nino. Enjoy your cigars. FOH members. Enjoy your cigars. I am about to light up a SDC3. Sincere apologies to those who were offended or did not understand the concepts being communicated.
khomeinist Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 If the ego shoe fits, wear it. If the exhibition of cigar fun doesn't fit, don't watch it. Simple - no need to argue. Agreed. Cheers. Enjoy your evening cigar....
khomeinist Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Simple. It brings the wingnuts out into the light. Mirror? So these shots towards members are ok? Are you thé FOH club bouncer? Enjoy your next cigar
bigfunkyg Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 I question the fact that if any of us had the money would we do things any differently? Obviously "Rich" from the videos has no shortage of funds and doesn't have any shame in that fact. Maybe some of us would smoke more maybe some less. That is all up to the individual. I often day dream about having enough money to be able to buy as many boxes of whatever I wanted regardless of how much I smoked, regardelss of they being aged boxes, RE's, LE's, discontinued, or current production. I enjoy the pursuit of cigars and getting a new box of somthing (regardless of what it is) never gets old. Is there anything wrong with sharing? I purchased my first Aristrocrat humidor a few months ago and was hesitant to put pictures of it on this fourm because I didn't want to come accross as being showy or arrogant. I did it because I thought there were may others who had similar aspirations is I did and the could appreciate the significance of obtaining somthing such a that. To each their own.....
khomeinist Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Hey Sartech.... Can you provide a list of unruly members that offend your sensibilities? Gotta get that blacklist going.....
Puros Y Vino Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Mirror? So these shots towards members are ok? Are you thé FOH club bouncer? Enjoy your next cigar It's a general statement on forum behavior in general. Don't' take it personally. I wasn't aiming at you. I don't have the time or desire to be an "FOH bouncer". It is preferred that all members practice some vigilance and call things out when they see them. To me, locked threads are like time outs in kindergarten. Do we really want/need that?

I think issues about collecting should have been raised separate from Rich's videos. Those videos stimulated some discussion, but I now see that it was unfair for a single collector to be associated with the conversation. Lesson learned. Cigar porn is good. I think some of us were trying to create a link between a certain type of collecting and what is currently happening with HSA discontinuations and so forth. I now personally believe that a separate thread should have been created and that specific collectors be left out of the discussion. Maybe that would kept the conversation on a more pleasant course. Cheers. Show your humidor setup!

No. I am hoping that the convo can be elevated enough so that the thread fades peacefully rather than taken out back and shot.
Puros Y Vino Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Touché. Cheers Frank. No. I am hoping that the convo can be elevated enough so that the thread fades peacefully rather than taken out back and shot. It's all good to me. Heated discussions are something I do not mind as long as they don't get personal. I should have been clear about my "wing nuts" statement though.
sloth Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Q: how many kids with ADD does it take to screw in a lightbulb? A: wanna ride bikes?
Tarks Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 What a great collection. Thanks to the OP for posting this up. I really enjoyed watching and listening to the videos. Cheers!
