Do not go with the xikar,

This is the way xikars have went for

me, used to love them and their warranty, then every one ive ever had has broken and needed to be sent back.

Ive got the ex, and while its ok, the slightest breath of wind will blow out the flame.

that's been my experience with Xikar, too..even though it's lifetime warranty, it becomes a hassle to keep sending bck and waiting...especially with shipping back on your dime

These three, but cost a little more. Flint and butanes are not windproof, but light every time and last forever.

Bic lighter I generally find them on the floor or the pub or I perminantly borrow them from my mates. Cost? Free!

I still use Jobon soft and torch flame in one. I bought 8 in Beijing for gifts – kept six of them! Nice retro design but with way too small gas tank.

Amen! I love mine. I think cuban crafters was the best price I found on the lighter but it has been great. I did have a small problem with it once and they exchanged it without question. My vote is also for the IM Corona cigar lighter with dual soft flames.

...they are childproof here mate. They are tough to light and the flame is so low that you burn your thumb to get a cigar started! The nanny state at work again! A flame retardant lighter!!!

I like Duponts Patrick but they are not cheap nor windproof. They are for indoor use only.

While it might seem outside of your budget, buying a non-lacquor variety is not too expensive and you will really enjoy using it. I use my 007 model frequently, it is classy and just plain fun to use.

+1 on this... I thought I was the only one. I used to use a Blazer PB-207 torch, but I lost it and that was the last time I spent decent coin on a lighter.

I don't get mad when I lose a BIC

IMO... using a specific lighter does not affect the enjoyment of smoking a cigar. Cheap torches are the best cigar lighters. If you buy anything else, it will simply to add to the collection of lighters. The same goes for cutters. I love my Dupont, but it does not get used much. Non-torch lighters are simply a pain to use when not indoors. If you are just looking to buy a "cool" lighter, then I would recommend spending the money to get something really nice. If you don't want to spend much, buy a nice lighter for some special occasion when you can spend the money.

Are the double corona lighters double soft flame? I so I might grab one as I've been looking for an affordable side strike like a DuPont without spending the DuPont coin.

I had bought a soft flame butan lighter 2 years ago at a LcDH in the Grand Cayman. It is the worst lighter I ever purchased. It only works when "it"wants to and you don't dare breath while you try to lite your cigar or that cottenpickin thing goes out.I stick with my single, double or tripple torches. If they don't work then I know they're out of fuel.

So my folks just came back from vacation in Hawaii and brought me back a zippo. Should I fill it with something like everclear or a high volume alcohol . I know that regular zippo(butane) fuel leaves a smell . What options do I have ? Or just stick to my wood matches a welled mini torch ?

Zippos run on petrol/lighter fluid/naptha that is the nasty smell, pure butane is what cigar lighters run off

go to ebay and look for 'z plus insert' basically they are torch (one or two flame) and soft flame sinserts to replace the petrol lighter of your zippo, just take the lighter out of the zippo case like you would to refill it and pop the z plus insert in, they run on butane (both torch and soft) so zero smell or taste

they cost about $10 and last for years

http://www.ebay.com/...s insert&_frs=1

now you have your cool zippo case but a cool lighter to go in it!

Xikars dont make their own lighters, they outsource them to a manufac called Tiger to make em for them, charging $10 more a piece just to have a xikar logo.

As per your lighter, take the elder's advice seriously. Save up for a good soft flame lighter such as a StDupont or dunhill. Its totally worth the price and it can also serve as an heirloom.

For now, get a reliable double flame torch. Torch flames were invented for the purpose of being windproof as soft flames are not.

One mistake i learned from lighters. Lending them to friend to lit their cigars may not be the best idea. They always put the cigar ash too close and ash gets in it...

Good luck mate!
