Hello All.

On Saturday Im flying to Riyadh through Frankfurt. I see they have a duty free shop and was going to box a box or two for my 2 weeks in Saudi. Has anyone purchased at a duty free? Does anyone know if its an issue to bring cigars into Riyadh?

Im trying to figure this out.

Thanks in Advance.

When I went to Cuba last week, on the way there the Duty Free in Toronto had a small humidor with some cigars. I didn't get any but I noticed that it didn't even seem like they had any temp control or anything going on in there. It also didn't help that people were leaving the door open too...I would rather go somewhere that specializes in cigars/tobacco for some peace of mind that they wont be wrecked..

I can only answer the second part of the question, There's no issues in bringing cigars into Riyadh, although i'm not sure of the limit (i brought 10 sticks). I have to warn you its bone dry there. I used a cigar caddy and some of my cigar had cracks not sure whether its from the lack of humidity or cigars knocking around in the cigar caddy.

Frankfurt Duty Free (unlike Munich)

does carry a decent collection, depending on what you are looking for regards your trip,

you should be fine.

They also offer a "pick up 'on return", should you find one or the other box which you would like to bring home.

Bringing cigars into Saudi is perfectly fine.. In fact they are very relaxed in terms of limits, so there is no worry there.

The Duty free there is very limited, I don't think they actually sell cigars.. And if they did, I can almost garantee you that they will be badly kept. Frankfurt is a different story, I've flown from their a couple of months ago and they had a decent walk in humidor.. However, it is quite limited to regular recent productions. You won't find anything rare, special or aged there.

In terms of cigar storing in riyadh, it's important to note that the city is one of the driest in the region so either bring with you bovida packs if you were to keep the cigars in the boxes or a travel humidor to keep them humidified.

Last but not least, if you are staying in a hotel ask them for a room humidifier. Cigars are not the only thing that need humidity.. You will thank me later ;)

Thanks for the tip Almudalwi, i was wondering what happened to cigars.

Just to add on there's nothing at all at the duty free at Riyadh airport. In fact i don't even remember seeing any cigar shops in Riyadh. The good thing is smoking laws are quite relax.

As the Alejandro already mentioned, Frankfurt has several well stocked DF walk-ins.

The best ( but all belong to the same company, Gebr. Heinemann )is located in the B Area of Terminal 1 across from gates B-26 / 28.

If the manager, Mrs Holzschuh happens to be on duty, you have a very knowledgeable person to assist you as well.

Selection is quite good with standard Cubans like Partagas P-2 or D # 4, RyJ, Cohiba etc. and also NC's like Davidoff. The cigars are well maintained, plus you can ask for a (free) special cigar plastic bag that will zip close and maintain the boxes in better condition than the regular bag, I have used those bags on my travels to Cuba, quite handy.

Prices are OK, you save about 30% from the German shop price.

As other's have also mentioned, taking cigars into Ryadh is not a problem ( but don't try to take in Ginger Ale as they only read Gin... and confiscate it :-)

Take a small sponge with you, wet it and place it in the bag with the boxes, should be OK for a week or 2.

While we have you on the phone, nino, what about taking cigars between Amsterdam, Belgium and France?

OK, should be no problem then. Thank you!

Now all I need is a wheelbarrow full of cash... :dollarsign: :dollarsign: :dollarsign:

Used to fly through Frankfurt on my way to Paderborn a lot back in the day and think it's one of the better airport Duty Free cigar options. Lots of different locations, all with good humidification setups. As has been said, you're not going to find rare or fancy stuff, but you'l find any of the standard fare SD4, RyJ Tubos, Monte whatever you want.

There's a guy named Canoefoot who posts on CA who used to be an air traffic controller there (since moved to Canada). He's a very nice guyand can give you tips on which ones to check out.
