danistalking Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Hey FOH! I'm going to Varadero on an AI trip, the 22nd...12 DAYS!!! I need a list..A list I can draw upon(no pun intended) when purchasing my cigars over there. I don't want to be a blathering idiot and wasting their time when purchasing over there. I have somewhat of a good idea what I might want to pick up but I thought I'd come to you all to think outside the box. I'll be going with my better half(girlfriendsoontobefianceafterthistrip) so I got a 100 cigar and 400 cigarillo limit. Thankfully we`ve gone once before so we wont be bringing any souvenirs for families since we`ve already done that, which equals more spending money! Also, I've been having a hard time figuring what I should smoke while there for the week..
maverickdrinker Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 best bang for your buck are Edicion Limitadas and custom rolls.
cottierm Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 You can use the YUL Cigars pricing but the most recent one dates of October 2011: http://yulcigars.blogspot.ca/2011_07_01_archive.html More recent is this one (from March 2012): http://pricing.cubancigarinformation.com/ Enjoy your trip! Best, Michel
maverickdrinker Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 oh, and any discontinued cigars, BHK, exclusiveLCDH releases (RA Superiores etc) and jars. Everything else is up to you.
cottierm Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Sorry, I may have misunderstood your question. Whatever, these two lists will give you something to think about and help you to plan your budget. M.
Blackham Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 My advise is to take a day(s) trip to Havana, a nice change of pace from the AI resort and you can load up your cigars there. Look hard while you're in the humidor, you might find some gems sitting in some totally unexpected spot Bring your own lighter, the ones they sell in LCDH are crap. Better yet bring a bunch of cedar strips While I was in Cuba last month there were no shortage of Gold Medals and Culebras, you might want to get a box of 2 since they're discontinued also there were some sightings of LGC M#2 Everyone's talking about the Royal Robustos lately and I saw alot of them
laficion Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 This is just my 2 Euro cents worth, but I'd get as many Customs as I can, Hamlets, Yolandas, Cuetos, Reynaldos etc, etc,
Nedule Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I just got back from Cuba 2 days ago. Selection in Veradero Casa Habana was decent, lots of the most common stuff, not much of the smaller vitola. I tried to find some party shorts & petit punch, PL petit corona, no luck on any. Partagas factory in Havana was fairly well stock, but still no small vitola. Corona Factor in Havana was a joke, loads of tour busses show up & sell them dried out stick from the a/c & they really push 10 stick samplers, all hard as rocks, don't bother going unless your stuck on the tour bus. Weather was hot, sunny & muggy when we left, hope you have fun. Make sure you have room in the luggage for rum too, sooooo cheap.
audio1der Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Day trip to Havana; Havana IS Cuba. Vara is not. We couldn't beleive the difference in the people, and atmosphere. Look for LE's and others such as RA EXtra and Cohiba 1966; MUCH cheaper in Cuba than anywhere online. Be prepared for unfriednly help/service, everywhere. They are a proud, educated people forced to perform customer service jobs to make money, and they're often not thrilled about it. Keep a mental tally of prices anywhere you shop, question cahier if that differs from total they tell you.
danistalking Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Thanks for the responses guys. The last time we went to Cuba, we did do the day trip to and Havana. It was to be expected, amazing. This time around I'm not sure if we'll be venturing there. I know for sure we'll be heading into the town in Varadero. So I'll be hitting up that LCDH for sure! As well as the rum store that's close by or around the corner I think... The list so far is definitely going to be RA Extras and '66s for sure! I've never tried the Gold medals or the Culebras. I have to definitely check them out. This time around I hope I'm able to get in the humidor, last time they didn't let anyone in. This was at the LCDH in Melia Americas.
CanuckSARTech Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Agreed completely with Art's suggestions. And congrats on the pending/potential engagement. Kudos and cheers.

BrotherBear Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 Hey Dan, I was there March 30th to April 2nd and the LCDH on 63rd was pretty well stocked. I'll be there again from April 20th to the 27th. Where are you staying? We should meet up for a few rums & cigars.
