Munts Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 While i was just enjoying a nice Party Short in a glorious Brissy autumn day i was thinking about this hobby that we do. My wife is not supportive of it and has put down a number of rules. There are not to smoke in front of the kids or have any cigars visible to them, to smoke outside only and to limit my smokes to roughly one a week. I was wondering what household rules other members have to agree to to enjoy a smoke.
orangedog Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 wife's rule is no smoking inside. my rule is no smoking around kids.
CanuckSARTech Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 She ruled as roughly one a week? How long have you been married vs. smoking cigars?
NMJoe Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 No smoking in the house, but I'm working on her while we shop for a new house (man cave).
Munts Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 She ruled as roughly one a week? How long have you been married vs. smoking cigars? I did say "roughly" lol... its not like.. ok you have 6 days 23 hours 59 mins until your next smoke... oh and smoking for 15 married for 8
CanuckSARTech Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I did say "roughly" lol... its not like.. ok you have 6 days 23 hours 59 mins until your next smoke... oh and smoking for 15 married for 8 While I wholeheartedly agree with the MUTUAL DECISIONS that my wife and I have made about my cigar habit (1 - don't ask, don't tell; 2 - no smoking in the house; 3 - that's it), I have a hard time swallowing someone saying, "you can only enjoy this every so often", nah nah. Just rubs me the wrong way. Hey, it's your marriage, your agreement with her - good on you for keeping it then, and for not having an issue with it. But I would be pissy with her - kinda like, "okay, so you can only have chocolate every other month, and you can't eat rare red meat, and you can only buy shoes or purses on odd numbered months, etc., etc." Man.....I'd be one hell of an evil naggy woman!!!!
Ophidion Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 My fiance got me my first humidor and bought me a box of H Upmann No 2 for my birthday. I feel like I am on the other end of the spectrum.
Strada Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 My girlfriend and I moved in together last july, we made a smoking loung in one of the rooms, she smokes with me and we just did 2 box splits. BGM and RASS ...not trying to rub it in tho.....
Hemsworth Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 1) I can only buy cigars when all of the bills are paid first...unless it's a box that she wants to try. 2) I can't smoke in the house more than once a week. Ummm...I think that's about the lot. My wife has always respected my cigars and even became curious enough to try a puff here and there because they smell so nice. Then she slowly worked her way up to being able to enjoy a whole cigar once in awhile. She smokes one or two a week now. Nobody is going to put a limit on the things that I enjoy.

ramon_cojones Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I'll be damned if a woman tells me how many cigars I can smoke lol.
sam Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 No rules in my house. I have a man cave- bar with a vent where I smoke all winter long here in Minnesota. During the summer it's cigars on the boat or at the fire pit. I smoke around my now 12 year old son and any friends he has over all the time (I smoke only on weekends, except for vacations). A couple years ago he told me I should limit myself to 1 or 2 cigars per weekend. I told him NO, and that was the end of that discussion. We have talked about the difference between cigars and cigarettes, and I reminded him that I didn't start this hobby until I was 40 yrs. old. His alcohol and smoking report for school health class this year was amusing. Last year in scouts they were doing the anti-smoking bit and one of the kids yelled out "sam's dad smokes cigars". The wife doesn't care about any of this or my Czar purchases as long as I don't complain when her wine club purchases arrive! In short, there is no hiding or restrictions on my enjoyment of this hobby. ---Sam
maverickdrinker Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 My wife is supportive. Only rules is I can't smoke in the house or around the kids. The next house though will have a smoking lounge. I got it in writing. LOL As long as I keep my spending in check and balance work with family time, I can go smoke when I want to. She even agrees to my 2 to 3 boys trips a year as long I am around to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and make time for family vacations. Yup, I got a great wife.
NMJoe Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Must.....resist.....urge.....for.....zinger...... I'm right there with you!
Strada Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I'm right there with you! Are we having a bacon incident again guys? what did I say wrong AGAIN lol
NMJoe Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Are we having a bacon incident again guys? what did I say wrong AGAIN lol It's just that my mind is where my body is...in the gutter.
cgarner Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 My wife is supportive. Only rule is no smoking in the house. Not her rule. More our rule. We don't have any kids but I will not smoke around them when they arrive
Eltoasto Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 You members w/ kids, do you not smoke around them because you/your better half think it sets a bad example or do you not smoke around them out of health concerns? Rules: Can't smoke inside Can't encroach on family time Can't spend too much. Not so much a rule but more of a fear of reprisal from the wife.
mkirk76 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I don't smoke inside the house. If I come home from a cigar lounge I change clothes right away, and put the smokey clothes in the garage. We have a newborn, and both agree there will be absolutely no cigar smoke around her, whether inside or out, and I'll change clothes and wash up after a cigar before holding her.
Dbone Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I'll be damned if a woman tells me how many cigars I can smoke lol. Damn right. Don't need the woman brining a man down. Either she's supportive and lets us be the man we were born to be, or well... I don't even like to think about the other side of that coin.
Lotusguy Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 My wife is supportive but we have a couple of mutually agreed rules: - No smoking in the house - No smoking near the baby That's it.
EL1990 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Man!! I'm not married and already whipped! 1 cigar a week for me..
MIKA27 Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Nobody is going to put a limit on the things that I enjoy. Well said! When I first met my wife and she learnt that I smoke cigars, she cringed slightly and I basically said, if you don't like it, ciao. It's part of accepting who one is and that is that persons interests. She had a choice, she made it so there's no changing it. Now, my wife sits down with me once in a while and enjoys a cigar with me. Especially if it's a COHIBA Siglo VI. The only thing I dont do is smoke in the house but that's my choice as I have 2 beautiful kids who I wish to remain healthy.
sharks Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I have my own rules really. 1. Dont smoke in the house. (patio heater for the great Melb weather) 2. Dont smoke around the kids. Watch the slippery slope when buying cigars $$$ its quite easy to go nuts. Sharks
