mazolaman Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 hehe honourable? I think it's a full blown scholarship! I don't know, I don't really see why people are going nuts. There was a fuel strike planned so the PM said if you are low on petrol it's probably sensible to top up, and the other minister comes out and says if you do a lot of driving it's probably sensible to keep a spare can of petrol in the garage for emergencies. Somehow thousands of people interperate that into ''WE HAVE NO PETROL ANYMORE!! BUY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN FIND, WE'RE ALL DOOMED! DOOOOOMED!! '' lol and then people are saying Maude should get the sack because he caused that woman to set fire to herself? If people honestly believe that then this country has for bigger problems then a fuel strike. Of course the media is essentially to blame for it all, they blow the sensible comments out of proportion knowing it will create hysteria, so they can report on the hysteria. They know the hysteria will cause accidents, which they then can report on, then they can report on the calls for someone's head to roll. Essentially it all leads back to the media doing exactly what they always do, and somehow no one pointing it out :/ Somehow out of all the phone hacking and corruption investingations going on, the press are exactly the same. Mate, for once I think the media are not the source of this.... This is politicking of the highest order. First, Cameron gets rumbled for hosting "kitchen suppers" to potential large donors, who may have an angle to lobby, Second, the "granny tax" from the budget makes the conservative week even worse. So the opinion polls see them plummet. So they find a patsy to make look worse, and deflect from themselves, sending Maude out to say "I'm not saying panic buy, but it might be prudent to keep a jerry can of fuel..." knowing damn well that panic buying, and muttering about unions would result. And no more talk about granny tax and kitchen suppers..... SMOKE AND MIRRORS. So, down here in London, we've had roads blocked with cars desperate to fill up like the world will end.....baaa baaaa But, it has been smug time for me, as one vehicle I own runs on vegetable oil, the other runs on LPG.... One costs about 20p/ litre and the other is about 80p/litre. Agree with lotusguy, we are reaching the end of the days of cheap fuel, and we have to learn to use alternatives, or stop driving 100 yards to the shops....
Omskakas Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 1,7 € / litre = 2,27 $ / litre And this is just a beginning of Zimbabwe/Weimar scale of hyper inflation. Hold on to your hats (but not to your paper currency!) Edited to add this pic:

The fuel is cheap to produce the fact is that it is so overtaxed in the uk and taxed twice duty then vat this is the cause of the price not so much the price of production rather the tax as a country we are mugs letting the gov tax as much as we do. Im personally thankful that I don’t drive or need to as even with our ludicrously high train fairs over here the price of the majority of journeys is now beating the price it would cost me I fuel alone its just a case of playing the crazy ticketing system.
Squarehead Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 In the Toronto area it's right now C$1.35/lit.but 20km outside it's 3 to 5cents cheaper. What pisses me of that we pay Tax on Tax.The government is not doing anything about this Pricegauging because the higher the price the more Tax Revenue for them.
PigFish Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 This is the result of political meddling with the market. The fact remains that governments all over the world make more per unit of fuel in taxes than any refiner in profit and they cause more of the problems than they create in solutions. Do you wish to know just how gullible the consumer really is? You think fuel is expensive? Try pricing plain filtered water put in a handy dandy little plastic bottle per gallon! Cheers -Piggy
Fuzz Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Most of our petrol stations are owned by shopping centre giants Coles and Woolworths and they do crazy things like introduce voucher incentives for loyal shoppers (10c per litre off) but then jack up the price of fuel AND groceries. Stupid duopoly. Now that's not exactly true. The 2 major supermarkets (neither owns shopping centres), Coles and Woolworths, are in partnership with fuel companies Shell and Caltex respectively. Woolworths does have their own branded petrol stations (Woolworths Petrol), Caltex also have franchised sites (only some accept the discount vouchers), where as all Shell petrol stations are co-shared. The vouchers can save you money, but only if you use them wisely. Buy only enough to qualify for the vouchers (buy items on promotion if you can), split your shopping so you can get multiple vouchers if required, use them on the cheap fuel days, and most importantly... don't go shopping just for the sake of a voucher!! This is just my opinion... not that I would know about anything either one of these 2 supermarkets do...
IcedCanuck Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 It was at $1.35 per liter in Gatineau this afternoon.
nikosdoc Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Athens Greece: Unleaded petrol Eur 1.8 Diesel Eur 1.6 In the middle of the worst eco crisis ever!!! talk about a cash cow!
Orion21 Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 The price here in Phoenix Arizona is almost exactly $1 per liter or $3.79 a gallon for regular and $4 a gallon for Premium Unleaded. Diesel is $3.94 a gallon.
TexAg Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Here in College Station, TX it's $3.71/gal for regular.
KarlJ Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 $4.50/gallon USD. Near Chicago Breaks down to $1.19/liter USD
Vetteman Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Paid $3.67 gal regular yesterday, $15 to fill the Harley. Sounds like a bargain compared to some of the non-U.S. locales, but it's still annoying. Gas had declined to $2.99/gal here less than a year ago.
