In the UK, 1 litre of:-

Unleaded petrol = £1.40 (USD 2.24)

Diesel = £1.47 (USD 2.35)

Also prices are on the march northwards as there may be a fuel tanker strike and the government have whipped up a panic buying frenzy telling everyone to fill up their jerry cans. This smart move has resulted in huge queuing at filling stations (those that still haven't sold out) and a poor if not so smart old lady suffering 40% burns trying to decant petrol in her kitchen. Smart move guys!

I understand gas prices in the States is a sensitive issue but comparatively speaking you really do okay and guess what the fuel duty is set to go up 3p in August. We pay tax on top of tax here seriously as VAT is applied to the government excise duty. It wouldn't bother me so much if all the Revenue was reinvested into building better roads or improving transport generally. It's just a government cash cow. Howabout where you live?

Cheers

Not high enough to affect any significant change in the way people think, drive, or buy cars here... Guess what the typical "second car" of a Prius driver is? That's right - a truck to tow the boat to the lake on the weekends

$1.10/litre, $4.20/gal here in Winnipeg Canada. Pretty cheap compared to other major cities in Canada.

How else you going to tow the boat? confused.gifconfused.gifconfused.gif If you can afford the cabin, boat, Prius and the truck then the price of gas is probably a non issue.

I hope you guys are taking into account the difference in Imperial (UK) gallons and the US gallon

1 gallon [uK] = 1.2 gallon [uS, liquid]

$1.55 per litre at the moment in Sydney, Australa for petrol ethanol hybrid... Straight up petrol here is about 0.05c dearer.

Most of our petrol stations are owned by shopping centre giants Coles and Woolworths and they do crazy things like introduce voucher incentives for loyal shoppers (10c per litre off) but then jack up the price of fuel AND groceries. Stupid duopoly.

You're being a little generous there :D She was decanting petrol in her lounge using a jug, next to her lit gas oven while cooking dinner!

Blaming the government for that is like blaming Phillips over someone trying to cook toast in the bath with one of their toasters.

Capt Q - I know and agree she was very simple indeed and in fact almost an honorary Darwin Awards candidate (google Darwin Awards for further info - perhaps she'd get an honorary mention).

Yet I still think that the Government shouldn't be on the radio suggesting people fill up their jerry cans when they should know full well that there are many not too clever people out there who shouldn't be advised to store highly flammable liquids at home. So in a way, given that some kind of accident was foreseeable, I still think they are at least indirectly to blame.

hehe honourable? I think it's a full blown scholarship!

I don't know, I don't really see why people are going nuts. There was a fuel strike planned so the PM said if you are low on petrol it's probably sensible to top up, and the other minister comes out and says if you do a lot of driving it's probably sensible to keep a spare can of petrol in the garage for emergencies. Somehow thousands of people interperate that into

''WE HAVE NO PETROL ANYMORE!! BUY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN FIND, WE'RE ALL DOOMED! DOOOOOMED!! ''

lol and then people are saying Maude should get the sack because he caused that woman to set fire to herself? If people honestly believe that then this country has for bigger problems then a fuel strike.

Of course the media is essentially to blame for it all, they blow the sensible comments out of proportion knowing it will create hysteria, so they can report on the hysteria. They know the hysteria will cause accidents, which they then can report on, then they can report on the calls for someone's head to roll.

Essentially it all leads back to the media doing exactly what they always do, and somehow no one pointing it out :/

Somehow out of all the phone hacking and corruption investingations going on, the press are exactly the same.

Indeed media hysteria whipped up by them through quoting selectively out of context which I think was started by R4. Still they could have put out a message sooner to rectify the situation rather than sitting on their hands or rather sending a junior minister on the next morning to essentially continue the "you'd better fill up" advice then only to U-turn a day or two later.

Ive recently placed an order for a volkswagen up! Its 3 cylinder 1.0 litre car that should get 70mpg with realistic output of 55mpg (according to my calculations) I also dont pay any road tax and its one of the lowest insurance groups.

I only drive german, and bought this car as a replacement for my vw polo. I dont need or want a big car, i want a car that is both efficient and well built.

Petrol (gasoline) has been going up 0.5 pence per litre every week in the uk since the beginning of 2012, i know the recent scare mongering by the media has been very unnecessary, we do have to face the fact that come about 4-5 months time the uk could have a serious problem on our hands with escalating costs and threats of strikes.

I also do not feel one bit sorry for the lady who burned herself, shes an imbecile. The circumstances in how this accident happened are mind numbingly stupid. But trust the gold old english media to use somebodys stupidity as a way to sell papers and get news coverage by linking it with the countrys ever growing fuel problems.

Around USD 5.61 per gallon or USD 1.49 per liter here in Brazil. However bear in mind that gasoline here always has 20% of ethanol by law. Which means that 1 liter of 100% gasoline is more fuel efficient than our gasoline. You need on average 30% more ethanol than gasoline to produce the same amount of energy.
