Munts Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Hi all Im currently in the middle of building my own winador. I still have the default wire racks and would like to replace them with some nice Spanish Cedar (Cedrela odorata). However it seems to be extremely hard to source. I have tried the local timber places and even asked a couple of cabinet maker mates to no avail. So my question is this.. where is a good place to get it from within Australia... OR ....is there an easier to obtain wood that is just as good??
coblos Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Trend Timbers in Western Sydney usually has some in stock. No one else in Australia (that I am aware of) come close to carrying as many timber species as these guys. The following are much easier to find in Australia and are suitable: - Australian Red Cedar (Toona Australis) - Malaysian Cedar (Surian) - Phillipine Cedar (Calantis) Your cabinet maker mates should be familiar with these 3. Mahogany also has similar properties.
CanuckSARTech Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Just don't go with standard white cedar, or aromatic cedar - it's waaaaay too strong of stuff to be using for a humidor.
ZinZan Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I didnt know there was a Malaysian cedar, thats interesting. Too many ideas coming into my head now.....
