Ghabanos Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 My favorites, in no particular order... Breaking Bad Dexter (how can you not like a show where you are lead to root for the bad guy?) Boardwalk Empire The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret (just discovered this one - frigging hilarious) Mad Men (I want to marry January Jones (and so does my wife!)!!) Life on Mars (the UK series only!) The Office (again, the UK series only) Fringe Modern Family 30 Rock Arrested Development (all-time best comedy series ever!!) Freaks and Geeks Undeclared Todd Martin is hilarious
CBL Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 My favorites, in no particular order... Breaking Bad Dexter Mad Men Modern Family 30 Rock Arrested Development (all-time best comedy series ever!!) Same shows for me, and bless you for reminding everyone about the genius that is Arrested Development (movie on the way!) I'd also recommend Community, which is one of the most underrated shows out there at the moment. Parks and Recreations is pretty funny as well, the show really found its voice in the past seasons. Ron Swanson is one of the best new characters on TV right now. But I'd start with Breaking Bad, that show really deserves all the credit it's getting! So well written and the story arcs are incredibly well thought out! The premise of the entire show is something that's probably never been done on TV before.

rckymtn22 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 How could I forget Californication??? It's sex and the city but for men Way better than Sex and the city. Way more T&A!
OZCUBAN Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Big Bank theory for me And Modern Family is a good laugh And also Sherlock is good value though only three episodes per series, but very clever OZ
chrismfontanot Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I forgot about Generation Kill (HBO), which might be the best war series out there. It's very cool that there weren't too many episodes.
BatFastard Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Gotta throw my vote in for Game of Thrones. I'm reading the series at the moment and it's epic! Also thoroughly enjoy Sons of Anarchy as well.
laficion Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I'm loving the series, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. On a side note,I saw 2 episodes of Sons of Anarchy and I just DON'T get it A hobo's version of, The Young and The Restless ??
BatFastard Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 On a side note,I saw 2 episodes of Sons of Anarchy and I just DON'T get it Guy, if you didn't watch it from the start, I can understand not getting the whole plot... It's one of those shows that you need to watch from the beginning to put it all together.
khomeinist Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I agree with Guy about Sons of Anarchy. yeesh. What a bunch of goofballs. My five year old daughter could out-maneuver those dolts.
KurtE Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 I decided to just watch Community because now that I'm back at uni I need something light and hilarious. Should go for Arrested Development too? Did I hear Community is coming back?
Hypersomniac Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Arrested Development Breaking Bad Californication Dexter EUReKA Last Man Standing The Big Bang Theory
RagingPorkBun Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 So far, I've been enjoying these series: Walking Dead (based on one of my favorite comic series) Community Castle Hell on Wheels (It's on AMC. Surprised no one mentioned this.) Game of Thrones Firefly (It's old and cancelled, but I love it. I hate Fox for cancelling it.)
MIKA27 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I love horror and gore flicks and one of the great series' out at the moment is 'The Walking Dead'
KurtE Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 I've almost finished season 1 of community and am in episode two of walking dead
Peter11216 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I have to add that I agree Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a good TV series. It isn't in the same league with the Wire. The Wire is the best television show there has ever been by miles. Unlike a lot of fans of the show, I would not describe it as being more realistic than other cop shows. Instead, I think it dramatizes things that no other TV show does, at least in US TV. For example: police making serious mistakes with rotten consequences for all, police acting out of malice, complex portrayal of a union, US's decaying infrastructure, paperwork, city politics, poor kids in public school, small city newspapers, etc. Seeing this kind of subject matter in a TV drama is pretty incredible. Back to Buffy. I'm not quite sure what to make of this series. I saw the entire thing when it was on the air. I was never quite sure if the writing was good, or bad in a way that came out unintentionally good. The show is pretty dark sometimes. It has a depressing air about it, that I think comes partly from the odd jokes which are presented without a laugh track, and delivered without the "right" emphasis. It works. I can't say I would recommend it, because what I like about it is pretty idiosyncratic, but I definitely agree with Ken. It isn't consistent, though. I think the show got much better over its life. Breaking Bad is the only other TV drama, besides the Wire, I have watched and liked. some great stuff. the best of the lot not yet mentioned. and i know the responses but.... buffy. seriously, one of the classics. very funny show. done so cleverly. and yes, the thought of watching a show about a 16 year old american teenager who has powers to kill vampires sounds horrific but the show was done so well, the writing so sharp and clever, it is a must. west wing. brilliant series. sopranos, mad men, supernatural, stargate, heroes, 24, alias, lost. all good fun, in degrees.
khomeinist Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I highly recommend Deadwood, Wire (Seasons1-3), The Prisoner, and Twin Peaks. Of newer shows? I enjoy Thrones, Luck, Borgias, and First 48.
ZinZan Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Echoing everybody's sentiment on Breaking Bad, love the show have so much depth in cinematography, script and etc. Really disappointed that it's gonna be the last season. Spartarcus, the third series just came by the way. CGI's are getting much better. Started out liking it because of soft porn factor but the overall story grew on me. Other notable mentions are Weeds, Sopranos (one of the best) and Borgias. Comedy sitcoms Modern Family and Frasier.
Lotusguy Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Another classic: 6 Feet Under. Never saw a show before where I hated every single character and still loved the the show itself.
KurtE Posted March 10, 2012 Author Posted March 10, 2012 Another classic: 6 Feet Under. Never saw a show before where I hated every single character and still loved the the show itself. I think it's because they are so interesting. I liked Nate but agree on the other characters but ultimately they were all intriguing characters
Hypersomniac Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I've started to watch Shameless (the U.S. version) and I am liking it so far.
