kcheek Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Wow, awesome job there, they look great. You did some fine work on your press as well. How do they taste?
Murri Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 This takes our hobby/passion to another level. Well done.
BatFastard Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 That is unbelievably cool!! Very impressive and great job!
CaptainQuintero Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 That's seriously impressive, fantastic looking sticks man!
Habanakane21 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Passion!! Well done..on the cigars and press. You should be very proud.Cheers
danistalking Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Nice work! Let us know how it smokes! Maybe you'll get a few orders!
Schumi5 Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Based on look and construction...amazing job! Thanks for sharing the pics.
CanuckSARTech Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Very cool. Well done - that takes a lot of work and patience to complete. Good on ya man, kudos.
kmagurk Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 very nice. i used to be a good roller in the old days ,but not cigars . ha ha
tempbond Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Very nice work my friend ! I can only hope to be able to do half as good as you did next summer. I already bought quite a few varieties of seeds to plant in my backyard, just going to start the germination today actually ! I'm really impressed at how your stick are even and your wrappers so smooth : they're the best I've seen so far for "roll your own", you should be proud. Could you please tell me how you made your cigar mold, this is the only thing I'm still investigating on the web. Seems very hard to make from what I've read. I notice that you have some kind of "pizza cutter" to trim your work as well as a chaveta. Great idea about the rolling cutter, I had not thought about that. Must be easier to use than the chaveta. But I guess you need a chaveta too. Did you buy the rolliong cutter in a arts and crafts store ? I've been going to a couple tobacco growing forums for info, but they're geared more towards making cigarettes (Howtogrowtobacco and Fairtradetobacco) Any website you could recommand or like better ? Sorry for all the questions, but you're my new hero ...
randomhero1090 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Which bunching method did you use? Looks pretty damn good to me!
Hypersomniac Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Very nice job. Hopefully they smoke as well as they look.
El Presidente Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 That really is a superb effort mate I have some premium havana leaf here that I would love to bring down to Sydney when you are ready. If you are ever keen, we can do an afternoon of blending ...a few drinks and a plenty of laughs.
Tan1801 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 That's awesome. I was toying around with a similar idea. I know the soil in my area is more like clay though...
emopunker2004 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Great work. There's a fellow over on Cigar Asylum who has been rolling his own for a few months. His skills in rolling have improved greatly over a few months. I'd love to start rolling my own but don't think i have the patience.
krs Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 I didn't expect so many reply's. thank you all for the kind feedback, I will try any answer any questions. I had a go at printing some bands on gold coloured paper but the ink didn't come out too well (bubble jet), a bit washed out. A colour laser might work. next step: print your own bands I don't think I can make the cigar press myself, let alone the cigars. Very impressive Thanks mate, you never know. Very well done! I am impressed with the quality of your rolling. I cant wait to hear how it smokes! Maybe the soil over there contains all of the magical properties of Cuba! No worries +1 Thanks for sharing the story and pictures. Good luck, let me know if you need help Very nice! I have the same kind of plans as I'm going to grow my first crop of tobacco next summer. There's a lot to learn. if they pass the taste test ill grow some more Put me down for a box please.. Great work cheers mate! Well done! I colour cured it outside under cover then fermented the leaves in a thermoelectric esky (for heat) with a bowl of water to bring up the humidity. took about a month to ferment with daily airing. Well done!. I'm interested to hear more about the tobacco you used and how you cured it. not sure yet mate keen to try one soon Wow, awesome job there, they look great. You did some fine work on your press as well. How do they taste? even if they don't taste as good as they look it was still good fun and learnt a few things This takes our hobby/passion to another level. Well done. jaypulay CaptainQuintero Diamondog Habanakane21 danistalking Schumi5 mbrody CanuckSARTech magoo Thanks guys!
krs Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 Let us know how you get on, you might only get a few good wrappers out of each plant, try and keep them from getting damaged (lower leaves) and colour cure is important don't let them dry green. Ill send you some pictures of the mold this week some time! I used a drill press. I purchased the wheel cutter from a craft shop, works great, nice and sharp. I used the chaveta as well but its not essential. http://www.coffinails.com is another site you can add to the list. when it comes to rolling I recommend watching all the vids you can find on youtube. Hope that's a bit of help, let me know if you need further help. Very nice work my friend ! I can only hope to be able to do half as good as you did next summer. Duane Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 wow great work If that head was a lil more rounded i bet you could flog them off
Taksan Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 That looks so cool! If that isn't a great pick up story for woman I don't know what is. If you manage to deliver a fake spanish accent you might even get away with being Georges from Cuba
ckearns Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Bravo! I'm very impressed by not only your inkling to do such a thing, but your end product looks top notch. This'll be tough to one-up.
Puros Y Vino Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Superb effort!! The press looks great, the cigars are quite attractive. I can't wait to hear how they smoke.
