ramon_cojones Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 There is no doubt that Kobe is the man you want taking the last shot for you when you are down at the buzzer. I think most knowledgeable about NBA basketball would concur. What I truly find amazing, and what makes Kobe so great is that the other team knows he is going to be the go to guy who will be taking the potential last second game winning shot, and yet so often still fail to stop him. That's what makes him so great. I don't think there is another NBA player who is as consistently clutch as Bryant. It doesn't get any more clutch than Kobe Bryant, have been watching him play since his rookie year.
Jah Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 It doesn't get any more clutch than Kobe Bryant, have been watching him play since his rookie year. Nothing says clutch like missing 79 out of 115 of your potential game winning shots.
CBL Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Hmm my classmates just informed me the Knicks won again, 90-87...
coblos Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Damn.... It continues. Lin fouled, makes the basket and 1 to tie. Then runs the clock down and nails a 3 for the win. 27 points, 11 assists and too many turnovers but most importantly comes up big when it counts. NY 13 to 1 run to finish the game. Linsanity isn't going away yet, it's picking up speed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhtlpxTkabo&feature=related *edit. ^ crowd a little excited considering he just drove a dagger into the home team.
coblos Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Now it gets really interesting since teams will study what made Lin go 1-12 in the second half of that game. How the Knicks, D'Antoni, and Lin adjust will really show whether Lin can have a productive NBA season/career. That said, most points by a player in their first four starts since 1977: Lin - 109 Allen Iverson - 101 Shaquille O'Neal - 100 Michael Jordan - 99 His talent level might not be high. He might not play for 10-15 years. However, that record speaks for itself. Unfortunately for Lin he now has the highest number of turnovers for any player in their first 5 starts.

khomeinist Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Yeah. Eight turnovers tonight says a lot. But whatever. It is good for the game and I am ok with that. Carmelo won't be taking any shots in the NBA Finals, so the hypothetical situation is irrelevant. Ball-stoppers with no D don't win many rings.
FireDigger Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Yeah. Eight turnovers tonight says a lot. But whatever. It is good for the game and I am ok with that. Carmelo won't be taking any shots in the NBA Finals, so the hypothetical situation is irrelevant. Ball-stoppers with no D don't win many rings. 8 TO's is a lot, even for a point guard. He also had 8 against Utah. I guess it's one of those things where people will overlook as long as you get the win. Lin's defense is a legitimate concern, however, they've got guys like Tyson Chandler, Jared Jefferies, and Landry Fields who plays pretty good D. And it seems like these guys are having fun playing with Lin and motivated to play D based on their interaction on the floor and during timeouts. That's what Lin is, someone who gets your enthusiasm up, whether you're a fan or his teammate. Never could I imagine rooting for the Knicks, but I do now with Jeremy Lin!
Paneotto Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 As a long time Knicks fan this is an exciting but probably fleeting streak. I hope not. This kid plays with polish.
FireDigger Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Also, look who is tied with Jordan with 99 points. Never heard of him? Me neither. You've never heard of Billy Ray Bates? Where were you in the 80's, under a rock?
KB24 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 All I need to say is 79/115. Introducing Stat Guy!! I used to work with a New Yorker and everyday no matter what the sport he came into the office and just started dropping stats. Even when the Knicks or Giants or Yankees lost, his only defense was to just start spouting off stats about whatever teams or players other people in the office liked. Knicks would get killed by 40 points and he'd start telling me about the number of assists to turnovers Kobe had the night before vs the Kings or some **** like that. Stat Guy, right up there with Gym Guy, Softball Guy, Sushi Guy, NCAA Bracket Guy, Pick Up Basketball Guy, Handshake Guy, Karaoke Guy, Golf Guy, Ice Cream Truck and most importantly, Likes to Fight Guy!
riazp Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 i'm loving this, I dont care who it is, as long as the knicks win.
thechenman Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Stats are great and they serve a purpose, but stats lie in the sense that they don't give you the full picture. And simple stats are even worse because they don't factor in the random externalities that exist in any given situation. Because of that the people use state to portray their view in the best light. Like Mark Twain said, "There are lies, damn lies and statistics." Even then people knew of the deceptive nature of simple statistics. I think the truest sense is to watch the player. Over time the mettle of the player will show. Is JL17 for real? Of course he is...he is real in the now when the Knicks needed him. Has be been clutch...no doubt. Is his game perfect...no...no one's game is perfect all the time.
khomeinist Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Clearly statistical inference requires 'real-world' observation for the purposes of validation. That being said, 8 turnovers is a lot, any way you look at it. That being said, I wish him well. Carmelo is a bit player in a bad movie (given his contract). If the Knicks respond to a guy who can actually move the ball around, then its all good.

KurtE Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I'm a Spurs man but as long as Miami and LeChoke are losing I am a happy man. The world loves an underdog and its great to see Lin dominate. Especially since he's the the sterotypical superstar kinda player.

ramon_cojones Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Kobe is the best player to have played the game since Jordan. Tell us jah, how long have you been a Kobe fan?
CanuckSARTech Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Tell us jah, how long have you been a Kobe fan? He's Kobe in disguise....
Jah Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Kobe is the best player to have played the game since Jordan. Tell us jah, how long have you been a Kobe fan? A truly clutch Laker;
KurtE Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 A truly clutch Laker; A truly pitiful series in terms of officiating. I definitely believe game 6 was fixed. Sactown should have won the ring that year
compitaveggie Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 http://chasing23.com/the-myth-of-playoff-kobe/ The truth hurts. Wow, whoever made that website must be very Jealous of Kobe. Kobe is not perfect or better than Jordan, but he is easily the best player now and nobody comes in a close third to Jordan and Kobe. Jose
coblos Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 as long as Miami and LeChoke are losing I am a happy man You can't be real happy then.
