Ken Gargett Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 mate sent me this photo. apparently a genuine pic of a salmon found spawned out in upper BC. touch scary.
Guest rob Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Do they have a nuclear reactor around there???
Ken Gargett Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 Do they have a nuclear reactor around there??? crossed my mind, too. bizarre photo.
TWalker Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Wow, that fish has teeth unlike any salmon I've ever caught! Pretty wild pic.
MoneyPit Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 How many hooks and lures did it take to catch that thing...?
Chicago Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Doesn't look like any salmon I have ever seen. Something is fishy....
MoneyPit Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 It doesn't look like anyone successfully landed him. I'd say he died of natural causes after spawning. I'm no marine biologist but it's my understanding that all the males die after the spawn. I wasn't aware that the males typically die after spawning. It does look like some joker has placed a few hooks and lures around his mouth as if to act like they landed this monster.
Colt45 Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I don't know much about salmon, but the teeth on this one made me curious. A little research shows it might be a chum (dog / keta) salmon, which grow canines when getting ready to spawn. And I agree that this one looks like it was found dead after the spawn.
Ginseng Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Good lord! If I landed that I'd throw it the heck back into the drink. Wilkey
thechenman Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 I think I may have just sworn off salmon...it's already making me regret the lox I had with my bagel this morning.
rckymtn22 Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Pretty sure that one has been hanging around on dry land for quite a while! Surprised there is only one as some of the BC streams can be fairly full of dead salmon. It is quite the sight in the fall watching them spawn.
