It doesn't look like anyone successfully landed him. I'd say he died of natural causes after spawning. I'm no marine biologist but it's my understanding that all the males die after the spawn.

I wasn't aware that the males typically die after spawning. It does look like some joker has placed a few hooks and lures around his mouth as if to act like they landed this monster.

I don't know much about salmon, but the teeth on this one made me curious. A little research shows it might be a chum (dog / keta) salmon,

which grow canines when getting ready to spawn. And I agree that this one looks like it was found dead after the spawn.

I think I may have just sworn off salmon...it's already making me regret the lox I had with my bagel this morning.

Pretty sure that one has been hanging around on dry land for quite a while! Surprised there is only one as some of the BC streams can be fairly full of dead salmon.

It is quite the sight in the fall watching them spawn.
