PAL Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 well, got my ozone generator with buit-in ionizing filter (HEPA filter also included). As was cold last night in Tokyo, a bit chilly for being on the balcony, thought to smoke indoors and then try the ozone thing. A friend came over and we both lit up in my smallish living room(15x60 feet or so). We smoke a variety, two each. My guest smoked an Ambos Mundos and another NC, I had a Habanos 2000 (from those Jars) and a Siglo IV. The Siglo being kept at 65% was tastier than when at 70% The Habanos 2000 was a nice smoke, perfect construction and burn; rather a 'uniflavor' of straight tobacco with some hints of sweetness which was more pronounced in the latter half (courtesy of my guest: Thanks!). After he left, I emptied the ashtrays in the toilet and, after a bit of fiddling with my humidor, went to bed. Before retiring I switched the Ozone-Generator/filter on. Using a count-down timer, I left it run for 3.5 hours @500sq/ft setting. This was about 1:30am. Entered the room at 7:30am curious how it worked. Well, the hallway which attaches to the living room (separated by a door closed most of the time while smoking and all night) had a noticeable but not overpowering cigar smell. The living room, where the ozone generator was, also has a faint cigar smell, but MUCH less than the hallway! I should mention that there was also a faint but noticeable smell of ozone in the room which faded almost at once upon entering the living room.Guess that means it worked to a significant degree. Will use the generator for longer time, when I shall not be in the room, and at a higher setting. as a side-note: also used Ozium this morning to see what that does to the remaining smell and it seems somewhat effective.
Fuzz Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 Fuzz can you recommend a HEPA/ION filter ? I don't smoke indoors, so I've never really researched air filters, but this one seems to fit the bill of both ionization and HEPA filtration. http://www.heavenfresh.com/s.nl?it=A&id=85&sc=1&category=-101 One thing I should mention, this unit does output a small amount of ozone as it utilises a UV lamp.
PAL Posted November 16, 2011 Author Posted November 16, 2011 Well, having used the device now for 24 hours, Ozone generator that is, I can report complete success! A total of six cigars smoked in my modestly-sized living room over a 15 hour period. Left the window open about 30cm on each side of the room for ventilation and had the exhaust fan over the stove going (kitchenet adjoins the living room) while smoking. When done, emptied butts into the toilet and ran the generator for a few hours at modest level while I slept (as described above post). Had a couple more smoke around noon with a guy form the office rather than a high-calorie lunch: choose your poison. Emptied the butts and left the window open a bit for ventilation. While leaving for the office, a short walk away, left the generator on for three hours at 1100sq/ft setting (room is half of that) for a power-clean. When I returned home five hours later, there was a faint smell of ozone in the hallway of the floor I live on (yikes or imagination). The entry way had a faint ozone smell, rather faint, but the living room was COMPLETELY odor free!!! Yes, Completely 100% smoke-odor free. Bottom line: Ozone generators really work at clearing the cigar smell. Yeah, smoking indoor this winter in style! PAL
