Guest rob Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Oh please.... It's the Internet .... type the cigar into google and you'll find an answer in less time than it takes to make your opinion on the matter public.
Colt45 Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Over-zealous moderating. Yeah, that's Trevor all right - heavy handed, self centered, uncaring..... But I guess since Rob hasn't specified but simply asked us not to post prices - that perhaps we simply...... shouldn't mention prices?

Well, that's one way of proving how silly the rule is. Can we talk about the prices of Opus X cigars at Casa Fuente in Vegas? The point is not the price of the freaking cigars as much as the rule forbidding adult discussion of the facts surrounding a Cuban cigar that Cigar Czar will never offer at retail.

Never say never. While it is highly improbable that Czars won't be selling this RE, it is not impossible. It has happened before (within recent memory too).

Price discussion may be the only bias of this site, but it is still the best international community on the discussion of cigars. When I'm in someone else's house I will definitely obeyed by their rules. Plus, the price can easily be had someplace else.

This was my rationale when I first posted the price. Figured it would be no big deal as Czar didn't have a mutual agreement with IEPT, as they do with say, Havana House to share regionals? Sorry for posting prices.

I find it a bit difficult to maintain the required level of civility here when some people seem so obtuse. First, I knew the price of the Dantes before ever reading this thread. That the current retail price is readily available elsewhere is immaterial. Second, I wasn't suggesting that anyone violate the rules of the forum. I was suggesting, and continue to do so, that the rules of the forum be modified to permit the discussion of prices in the context of discussing HSA's markeeting and new releases in situations where competition with FoH's business is not an issue. We're adults here (mostly) and surely can tell the difference between a discussion of price points in general a discussion of prices that directly implicates FoH's business.
semery74 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Van I understood what you are proposing. I just disagree. When you give some people an inch they take a mile. If I surrounded my business with an online community and my livelihood depended on competing in an open market I would have zero tolerance on price discussion. Isn't it far easier for moderators to pull the plug on 1 questionable child document of a discussion thread, out of the possible 50 per hour?
Trevor2118 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 Regarding Posting of Prices & Sources, you might like to consider the following: Moderators generally have two duties. Firstly.....to enforce the rules of the forum. Secondly.....to uphold the tone of the forum. The first is easy, the second is harder. This thread has clearly breached the first duty, and in my opinion, appears to be in danger of breaching the second duty. If prices are posted, invariably more posts follow in the tone of ......."I've seen these $$ cheaper at XYZ." and so on. Anyone else who has seen a cheaper price then also feels obliged to chime in.......and on it gos. This forum is not intended to be a noticeboard of cigar prices and sources. As suggested in previous posts, the internet (and Google) can provide pricing and sourcing information, and if not, the Forum provides Personal Message & Email functions for anyone to seek the required information. Trevor. PS. This is my personal opinion only.

Isn't it far easier for moderators to pull the plug on 1 questionable child document of a discussion thread, out of the possible 50 per hour? The "no discussion of prices [or sources] rule" seems so palpably silly to me that I decided to go to the seven commandments thread to see exactly how Rob had worded it. The good news is that there is NO rule prohibiting discussing prices asked by HSA retailers. Here's what the actual rules say: Rule 4 No discussion of Shipping Shipping is not discussed on the forum. It is a core rule and has been so since inception and always understood by members. Posts regarding shipping regardless whom it is about will be deleted immediately. Mods will enforce. Govt Nazi's around the world need no help. Contact your supplier directly to answer any questions or issues regarding shipping. Rule 5 No Discussion of Sources There are thousands of online suppliers of cigars around the world. Some good, some average some thieves. This board does not discuss any. This country has some of the most stringent defamantion laws in the world and I am liable for any law suits that come from threads such as "**** sent me fakes" You are intelligent people. Use the PM feature/e-mail me if you have any questions. Where I come across flagrant sellers of fakes I may post it. However it will be a post coming from myself based on 100% certainty. Now, Rule 7 does prohibit the posting of prices -- but it pertains to posts in the trading room, not to LCDH retail prices on the discussion forum. Here -- we could all use a refresher anyway: http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=106496 So, with great respect to Trevor, he is guilty as charged of overzealous moderation, in that he was enforcing a rule that does not exist for this forum. And to bring this back on topic, I think the price being demanded for these Dantes, being 1/3 more than that for the Dantes 109, is totally outrageous, and I hope enough potential consumers agree with me that the damned things rot on the Mexican retailer's shelves and gives a good lesson to HSA for the long term!
Van55 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 OOOPS!!!! I stand corrected (by myself): We have some rules which are strictly enforced:• No mentioning of sources, prices or any discussions of shipping methods, success, failures. Contact the vendor direct and do not put it on this forum. In relation to prices and sources this can always be done through internal e-mail between members which the forum supports. Sorry, Trevor. But still the context seems to make clear that the no prices etc. Rule applies to those of specific vendors/Internet sources, and not to the price that was deleted from posts on this thread.
Trevor2118 Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 OOOPS!!!! I stand corrected (by myself): Sorry, Trevor. Apology accepted.
