BrotherBear Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 I wish I could find one of these... Xikar Wolf Double Punch If anyone knows of a vendor who has stock, please pm. I think these may be discontinued.
frankj1 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 well, I can't be the only one who sometimes uses a v-cut, can I? Often I will start a box pressed or larger ring cigar with the v, and sometimes I will open it up later on if it needs it with a xikar. Frank
TonyV Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 I have several Cuban Crafter products and have had problems with quality. I have a perfecto and the blades come out of the housing every time I use it. I agree the concept is awesome, the craftsmanship is lacking. I would send it back, the perfecto has a lifetime replacement policy. I have yet to have a problem with the two i own.
tucomapache Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I use a new drywall blade and cut a cateye cut... Adds to the "a mano" experence..
Charltonc Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Palio or teeth. I love the taste of tobacco down the throat and it is good for my bowels.
Schumi5 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 As long as the type of cigar is appropriate, I tend to use a punch. I find it gives the cleanest cut and focuses the flavour best.
livedavid Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 well, I can't be the only one who sometimes uses a v-cut, can I? Often I will start a box pressed or larger ring cigar with the v, and sometimes I will open it up later on if it needs it with a xikar. Frank Sometimes I use the V-Cut twice to make an "X" 1
headstand Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Guillotine aka double blade 'cause I don't know better. Considering experimenting with a punch.
bstarrs Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I current;y use a Xikar cutter, but i really want to pick up a quality punch cutter soon for some variety.
CanuckSARTech Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Guillotine!!! Maybe because I'm French ? LOL. Funny stuff, mon ami!!!! No historical connotations there!!!!
CanuckSARTech Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 When I first started into cigars in the 90's, I started with punch cutters, and even with the V-groove single-blade guillotines. But, after I got away from cigars for a few years, and then got back into them in 2005 or so, I've moved from punch cutters again at the start, to strictly Xikars. I enjoy the double-bladed guillotine of the Xikars, and the design and materials are top notch. I've got 4 or 5 of them, some that do indeed need to be shipped to Xikar for sharpening now, but they've always been flawless for me. Beautiful, simple, utilitarian pieces, that are still eye-catching.
Puros Y Vino Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 I've always used guillotine but this past weekend I tried a punch cutter and I liked it. I think I'll try it more often and see what difference in makes. I would like to get a nice pair of scissors eventually.
Maron76 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 What does everyone recommend for a good pair of scissors?
DinoCop05 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I use the Lotus guillotine / punch combo. I normally prefer the guillotine, but there are some cigars I punch occasionally. So, I like the versatility of the is cutter Dino
BobKincaid Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I prefer a punch for everything save small ring gauges, where it's not really an option.
rckymtn22 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I have a cheaper guillotine that does the job, may upgrade to a Xikar or nice scissors.
Michel1968 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 What does everyone recommend for a good pair of scissors? For the cleanest cut: Donatus 1155/01 Looks tricky as if taken from an OR room but it's fantastic tool
Lotusguy Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 For the cleanest cut: Donatus 1155/01 Looks tricky as if taken from an OR room but it's fantastic tool What he said! I have the ceramic coated version of these.
laficion Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 What does everyone recommend for a good pair of scissors? Ceramic teeth ?
dB69 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Ceramic teeth ? I got one and I'm not going to recommend it.
gr8tdanz Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I voted other. I use a Xikar Xi cutter for everything up to 54 RG. Over that I prefer to do a double punch. If I cut a large RG it seems the draw is too loose. This obviously only relates to my NC sticks.
