I have a soft spot for Chile. This is my 4th visit and the first one that is purely business focused albeit separation of business and pleasure for me is an impossibiltiy. Normally I would take in some fishing in this wonderful scenic country but it is head down this trip.

Arrived yesterday and went checked in at the new boutique hotel Lastarria. 14 rooms in a beautifully refurbished house in the centre of Santiago cental. A beautiful garden for a cigar and WIFI to tap away and do some work. You can check it out here http://www.lastarriahotel.com/ The staff are young, vibrant and immensely friendly.

Took a stroll out last night and ended up in a great bar called "The Clinic" where I sampled some great wines and had a fine steak. One wine really hit home in a stunning bottle of Cousino Macul , Don Luis, cab sav 2009. Truly excellent, elegant, layered soft lingering flavors of chocolate and fresh berries. Cost $8 AUD. If you can track it down, do so. Bargain.

Today albiet Sunday is meetings from 12pm which will run late into the evening. Tomorrow I have a break and good FOH mate "Taino" is taking me out to his winery operation. Full day work Tuesday before a late evening flight back to Australia (20hrs).

So I am sitting here enjoying a magnificent HDM Epicure 2 and a doble espresso. The sky is blue, the weather cool and crisp. I missed fathers day at home yesterday which hit me more than I expected. I miss the kids.

Looking forward to getting back to Lise, Di, Smithy and the forum full time. Mucho to discuss!

Hasta Luego!

Chile is indeed a great country, good place to be. I stayed with local people in their homes there for a month, 10 days were in Santiago. My only problems were finding good espresso and

finding someone who enjoyed a cigar. Amazing in a Latin country.

I did hear you could get a good cup of coffee at a place called Cafe con Piernas!

Outstanding wines are everywhere, especially liked the ones from the Colchagua valley where I spent some time, too.

Enjoy your visit, Rob!

WOW.. i just went to the website and hate to say it, but.... that Hotel looks "Divine!".. that pool/outdoor area and picture of the rooftop would both be amazing places to light up a stogie. I'm envious.

blah, blah...be safe...blah, blah..come back etc etc

What I really want to know is why HDM E2? I noticed both in BA and Santiago that is what you enjoyed. Any particular reason? Just grabbed those before the trip? Pure chance? or is there something else; the mood, the place...

I miss Santiago. Lived there for 25 months when I was a Mormon missionary from 92 - 94. Yep, that was before my cigar days. I still have many friends there and should probably get my butt back there ASAP. That hotel looks promising Pres. Hope the trip is excellent.

Indeed I took a mix of cigars with me. I had the first of the HDM E2 late in Toronto/or post...not quite sure. They are pure sweet milk chocolate and consistent cigar to cigar. I just can't get enough :D

Today could be the perfect day.

Spent 9-12 at Federicos winery operation tasting a multitude of wines direct from the tanks and barrels. He is doing some excellent stuff including a stunning Pinot which was so long on the finish I can still taste it.

12-2 at the Casa De Habano in Santiago. One of the nicest LCDH in the world and an absolute credit to the owners. Spotless, great staff, great layout. They are also expanding which to me shows the reward of being at the top of your game. Kudos to them.

2-3 e-mails

3-4 Siesta

4- currrent.....glass of wine and cigar (Pacifico) in the Garden while I tap out some proposals.

Will catch up with federico again this evening for dinner.

....Never separate business and pleasure :D

Enjoy the updates. I spent 6 weeks backpacking in Chile from the Peruvian border to Punta Arenas.....one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Rob,

Chilean wine is some of the very best in the world. There is a reason why the French wine companies have bought up so much good land . . .

Cheers and enjoy the rest of your trip!

Yes, I had the same problem, everyone in Chile serves Nescafe which in my opinion, is not coffee...

I did however "seek" Cafe con Piernas (Coffee with legs) and all I can safely say on this topic without my wife finding out is WOW!:perfect10:
