Colt45 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Thanks much for the list. I do like rum, but am nowhere near the rum-o-phile that many of our members are. A gallon or two of Gosling's, a few bottles of cola, lots of ice, and a bag of limes - I'm happy

A gallon or two of Gosling's, a few bottles of cola, lots of ice, and a bag of limes - I'm happy To me it doesn't get much better than a glass of the Cruzan Single Barrel with 2 cubes of ice or 2 shots of rum 1 shot of simple syrup (homemade of course) and 2 shots of fresh squeezed lime juice - shaken served on ice...add a little coconut rum to your liking and you are immediately transported to the beach!
Lotusguy Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Is this a joke? HC Sellection de Maestros? Its the barrel proof in a different bottle and while good, it certainly is not a top 10 world rum!! Also, how could they have this on hand to taste in SF? Always wondered about that... +1 and the Montecristo rum is nasty!!

Sounds good (except for the coconut rum.... ) Every now and then I'll have a glass of Zacapa 23, which I have with just a touch of ice. I don't how it equates to the list, but I consider more of a sipper than my usual. But..... There is a remote possibility that I am one of the people who subscribe to the theory of too much of a good thing - is still a good thing!

I do love Vizcaya Cask 21 though. Both are great.
cottierm Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Not a single product from the French Caribbean islands, how strange. Any explanation on that point? r3db4r0n Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Diplomatico is good, but it isn't any better than Ron Zacapa XO, 23 or Zaya, something is wrong. Also I would agree there is something unusual about the absence of rum from the French Caribbean islands on this list.

goalie204 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Taste is subjective, and i trust what i like more than a panel of judges. Thing is, if EVERYONE loves something, i'll try it, and i might too. Example I think Grey Goose was rated the worlds best vodka...somehow? Sorry to anyone that agrees, but to me this is a joke, grey goose is not all that. I'm just rambling now
fokker4me Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Zacapa XO and 23 are both great rum. I don't know how they did in that test however they are my go to along with what used to be Havana Club BP.
Lotusguy Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I think the Zacapa XO is actually too sweet and rich - I prefer the 23 over it.
Stalebread Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 Diplomatico is good, but it isn't any better than Ron Zacapa XO, 23 or Zaya, something is wrong. Also I would agree there is something unusual about the absence of rum from the French Caribbean islands on this list. The Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is, for my taste, the same high quality as the RZ rums but it is sweeter -- and less expensive. The Anejo is, I think, Diplomatico's low end offering and their least aged. The list does seem to be a strange one for a list of alleged world class rums. We don't know what rums were not tasted at all or which ones were tasted but did not make this list. Were they tasting only light rums? Only dark rums? A mix? What was their definition of aged (as I said above, as far as I know, the Dipomatico Anejo that made their list does not have much age at all). Was there a cost factor involved? Makes me a little suspicious but then I'm often a little suspicious. Nonetheless, I'll put the Cruzan on my list to try. .
mk05 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I really like HC blanco for its versatility, and the Legendario to drink socially with some nice cigars.
BENN Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Not a single product from the French Caribbean islands, how strange. Any explanation on that point? Yes, they taste terrible
cottierm Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 So awful in fact that I cannot find a single one in my part of Canada (Ontario)! Best, Michel Yes, they taste terrible
Fuzz Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 There's now a new rum on the market, Ron de Jeremy! Sure to be on next year's top ten list! http://www.theshout.com.au/2011/12/12/article/VIDEO-Porn-star-Ron-Jeremys-new-adult-rum/FFUCFJQMXJ.html
backslide Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I really enjoy 10 Cane, I'm surprised that it didn't make the list.
brazoseagle Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 My personal favorites are in order: Cruzan Single Barrel Zaya 12 years rum Burgal 1888 reserve
TWalker Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Yesterday for my birthday my wife gave me a bottle of Angostura single barrel. Man, is that ever some nice rum! I think it easily beats out anything I've tried from HC. It's from Trinidad and a fellow worker brought it back for her (me). What a treat. She told me that her workmate's dad is coming back from Trinidad soon and would be happy to bring me a couple more bottles. It's apparently very inexpensive if bought in Trinidad. Fantastic colour and tastes of vanilla, caramel and oak. Just lovely rum!
El Presidente Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I have to say I am Surprised the Ron Z (23 0r XO) did not make the list. Ken...in your 200 bottles of rum in your house...do you have any of these we could use for a cigar video
Stalebread Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I have to say I am Surprised the Ron Z (23 0r XO) did not make the list. Like I said on an earlier post to this thread, I think we don't even know if RZ was tasted and then did not make the list or if it wasn't tasted at all. But, now, I looked at the entrants to the 2011 competition and, as far as I can see, RZ was not an entrant. Results by class of 2011 competition are here LINK There are 41 pages. ,
