A few recent acquisitions 1980s bottlings of Glenfiddich 15 and 18. 1980s bottling of Macallan 12 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My summer planned trip to Cuba was scuppered so I did the next best thing... a whisky buying trip/tour of Scotland! Had a great week with a mix of rain and glorious sunshine. Some great pick ups too -

Blanton's gold US release

Went in with one thing on my mind to get, and grabbed something completely different.

Independent bottling of a red wine finished 8yr old Bowmore.

I'm excited to give it a try.

Grabbed a few wines while in Montreal for the herf in March.

A selection of Sauternes. Far better selection in Quebec and reasonable pricing if you want some of this golden nectar. :)

A nice Cava and Prosecco, also not available in Ontario to finish things off.

First of two deliveries this weekend ;) Unfortunately they sent me the wrong English - I wanted the Peated.

Ooo, what a thread this is!

Here's a few of this years acquisitions so far.

Stocking up on my bottled hydration.

More Bowmore is a good thing. The Liamrig sherry cask pairs beautifully with a good cigar.

I was gifted the Corryvreckan from a great BOTL at a gathering I hosted and it's a powerhouse of flavour, the Octomore I drank a third of my bottle at the first sitting, but that one won't be for everyone. I just grabbed the Laddie Black Art v3, and will try it out this weekend.

I have to replace the Benromach organic already, as I've really been hitting that one and sharing with a couple friends.

nice work on the Bruichladdie Black Arts mate!

Tried this at the liquor shop and found it surprisingly smooth. Plenty of fruit (apricot)...And for $30! This bottle won't last long myty5ytu.jpg

I took advantage of some well stocked duty free shops in recent weeks...1l Caol Ila (my personal fav to date), 1l Laphroiag QA Cask, 1l Balvenie Triple Cask 12 Year, and 1l Talisker Darkest Storm. Hope to make these last until my bday in July!

Most people know I'm already an Old Pulteney 21 ***** and have been for a long time (before Jim Murray)!!!!! I even love the 17 and 12!!

Saw this today and picked it up. The Old Pulteney Navigator.... WOW, it's FANTASTIC.

Don Papa supposed to be the first Rum from Philippines aged 7 years.

Just released beginning of 2014.

Tried it in Berlin and got their last bottle.

Very sweet, very fruity.

A few recent additions.

I've been talking to a friend who's be studying abroad to be a sommelier. He's given me some tips on recent releases, answered questions about my favourite staples etc. One thing he stressed to me was the following. And I'll paraphrase. "Do not miss out on 2011 Port". If you're the wine investor type, a case at $1000/12 now could possibly fetch $20 - $30K in 20 years. If you truly enjoy the wine and are patient enough, the 2011 Port will be an excellent experience now and an ethereal one in 5 - 10 - 20 years in the future. I am definitely not the wine investor type. But I enjoy Port with a cigar; immensely. I've come close to drinking a 750ml bottle in one sitting just because I had enough stellar cigars on hand to go with it. :)

So, without further ado, here's my meager 2011 Port "collection".

  • Two bottles of Porto Calem
  • One bottle of Cockburn's

She's got great taste in men ...and Single Malts I reckon ;)

That Springbank is a bit of a collector piece since it's an old bottling.

Nice find.

I would advise a high level of caution regarding Port as an investment. Undoubtedly the 2011s will be incredible wines to drink if you have the patience though!
