So, what are your recent acquisitions?

Thanks.

Incidentally, I am waiting on some overseas deliveries at the moment and there's a Springbank 12YO Cask Strength in there, Batch 3 (I think). ;)

Batch 5 is good too, eh?

I am new to Springbank so I can't give an informed opinion as no comparators, just that I liked it a lot :)

A few recent acquisitions 1980s bottlings of Glenfiddich 15 and 18. 1980s bottling of Macallan 12 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My summer planned trip to Cuba was scuppered so I did the next best thing... a whisky buying trip/tour of Scotland! Had a great week with a mix of rain and glorious sunshine. Some great pick ups too -

Blanton's gold US release

You've got some fine stuff in the US Costco.

And cheap - the Vodka was $13.99 for a 1.75l, the 18Y Speyside was $32.99, and the Bourbon was $19.99 for 1l

I just wish they still had Balvenie Single Barrel 15Y for $52.99, like they used to...

Did you just pick these up? Are they back in stores already? The 21 year old Speyside from last year didn't come out until after thanksgiving if I remember correctly.

Just picked them up. The Speyside was almost sold out already - not sure if they'll get more in.

Fantastic, man!

I used to be an Ardbeg-ophile, plain and simple. But ever since I was introduced to Springbank a few years ago, it has elbowed Ardbeg out of the way to the top (Not that I don't still love Ardbeg and get every bottling that I can!)

Springbank is just one of those malts that you almost can't describe - a creamy aspect to it that you can't find anywhere, and some of the best use of peat and smoke that i've tasted. It you ever get a chance to try their Local Barley variations (I tried some at Vic Whisky Fest last year that was from a tapped cask that they don't even know if the'll bottle), they are absolutely spectacular, the stuff of dreams.

Enough preaching - Enjoy your Springbank journey, and make sure you cop the 15 yr and 18 yr as well! I find the 18yr better than the 21, but many others would disagree. Also, try and get more than one Longrow and Springbank CV. Notwithstanding their awesomeness, the CV bottlings are discontinued, to be replaced by just "Longrow" and "Springbank" bottlings.

Some new acquisitions from the local bottle-o today:

As you can see, I am quite smitten by the Springbank - Longrow - Hazelburn malts. biggrin.png

Then there are a few more orders placed from the overseas sites that have not arrived yet. wink.png

In truth, I have never really had much of a thought for this distillery nor Campbelltown malts before, time to make up for lost time. laugh.png

I actually have a couple of 18YOs in transit, one if each Springbank and Longrow.

You are right, I thought I've practically tried most styles of single malt then I had my first Springbank 10YO, Longrow Peated and Hazelburn 12 YO - what an eye opener. A very unique trio.

Thanks for the tip on the CV's.

Came across a nice bottle at an obscure bottle shop today. 1993 Glendullan.

Casked in oak, Rioja and rum barrels. ACE'd in Callejo and rum casks.

17 years old, 92% NCF, bottled by Murray & McDavid at Bruichladdich. 800 total.

Love the toffee and raisin notes I get from rum cask expressions.

I have got a mate going to Japan shortly too and I have asked him to get me some ***** Tsuru 17 Year Old (not Taketsuru) at the Narita DF. If he can't get it, the default choice is the Suntory Hibiki 21 Year Old.

How does the Suntory Hibiki 30 Year Old compare with the 21 Year Old sibling. I can't bring myself to fork out for the 30 Year Old yet as the asking price is twice that of the 21 Year Old!

Incidentally, I can't help but notice that the price for Japanese whiskies usually skyrockets for ages 21 and more. Curious to know why that is.

Problem with 21 & 30 is they didn't continue the aging process thus for a few years stock is going to be rough until the non aged period passes so 21s and 30s will be hard to come by for the next couple of years. Tell your buddy to hit up the Yamada better selection and better pricing. I picked up a 12 for about 30 and 17 for 60. Last time I was there the 21 was 160-199 30 was 499. The 30 is on a whole 'nother level. That's when u smoke a Cohiba Gran Reserva. I think it doesn't really taste like a whiskey at that point. It's hard to describe but almost like a apple cider. Truly an experience

PS same with Yamazaki 18s that's why stock is scarce and prices are rising

Yea without the tax. Good price. Exchange rate is good right now as well. Man now I really want some Hibiki....

Guigal Cotes du rhone 2010 x2. Anyone tried this?

It's a good one, hard to go wrong in years like 09 and 10 when there's so much good fruit for them to choose from. It's good value so I'd be inclined to stock up if you like it, haven't tasted the 11 yet but I imagine it won't be at the same level.

Thanks. I am keeping my eye on anything 09 or 10 particularly in the northern Rhone as there are some very good wines to be had at a low price point.

I've succeded so far with Crozes-Hermitage from the Tain co-op for £6 per bottle (1/3rd off discount) as the 09 is drinking extremely well and unbelievable value for money in my opinion.
