Rexyboy Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I have just tried my first RASS today and uploaded my thoughts while they were still fresh. Let me know what you think and if anyone has had similar experiences. I was expecting big things after some of the great review and comments on FoH. Thanks.
Styler Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 One of my 'go to' cigars, I just can't get enough RASS in my life. I will say though that I think the RA Stewed fruit flavours can take a few years to really come to the front (depends on the year). That's not to say that young RASS are always bad though, I've got a NOV10 box right now (should still be in their sick period!) that are like taking a bite of chilli chocolate while sitting next to an open wood fire, delicious.
mdzotti78 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I just got a nice box of RASS. Your review was spot on. The box I got is very young (2011), but I had to try one. I don't know if I can let them sit that long.
randomhero1090 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I'm a total RASS *****. Oldest smoked was an '06. Youngest MAR '10. I get more sweetness from the more aged RASS. Younger ones tend to have the tobacco/wood flavor dominate. Fruit flavors, yes, hints on occasion, esp on the retro. I get sweetness from most of the RASS I smoke. More the taste of the wrapper. As for the wrapper color, i've noticed the more recent the RASS, the darker the color. The '06-'08 RASS I have are basically Colorado Claro. The boxes of MAR '10 and JAN '11 are Colorado Maduro. The box of JAN '11 is dark and oily. I've noticed this from every retailer I deal with, pics from other members, etc etc.
bacalao Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I also own a NOV10 box and have had about three so far not getting the fruit but must say the best finish of any cigar in my collection. I don't have the urge to brush my teeth after one of these the aftertaste is almost better than the smoking experience. Curious to know how the Gigantes compare to its little brother?
Wil Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I seem to get more light, dried fruits in the RASS than stewed fruits, and particularly in the first third. I strongly advise revisiting RASS - one of the best robustos on the market IMO.
Rexyboy Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 I strongly advise revisiting RASS - one of the best robustos on the market IMO. Yup. One cigar doesn't make a life long decision. It was still an enjoyable smoke just not what I was expecting. I'll keep an eye out for a good looking example.
amosnaim Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 i love this cigar, although not on an empty stomach. i think this is the strongest of the robustos. great clouds of smoke.
Ginseng Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 One of my favorites and a classic, IMO. When it's on, there's no robusto experience like it. Wilkey
brazoseagle Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 RASS is an under-rated jewel. For the price, I love them!
PuffDaddie Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 The RASS is the most robus, complex robusto cuba makes.
Pilgrims Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 Having had the first good condition RASS of my smoking "career" recently, I loved it's fullness but it never became ott or out of balance. Very high on my buy a box to lay down list
aavkk Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 funny, the first 3 or 4 RASS I smoked were underwhelming. Then I smoked one that was fantastic and I bought a box, smoked a handful from that box and bought a cab...and another. I dont even like the damn size yet there are only a few cigars in my collection that I own more of. And because I type this tonight, it looks like I need more BPC and Mag 46 cabs.
marleydog Posted January 14, 2012 Posted January 14, 2012 I used to be a CoRo snob. Then a pal offered me a RASS a few years ago. I was hooked. At first, I thought the price difference was a factor in my love for the RASS. Then it occurred to me that even though I have plenty of CoRos in my humidor, I prefer the RASS. Price difference is just a real nice side effect.
hidechen Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 RA has always been one of my favourite brands. I solely enjoy all my RASS and small club over the last 3 years. I just like the flavor profile of it!
CanuckSARTech Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I've liked RASS for a fair while now. However, I've only ever had RASS out of SLB boxes, never out of cabinets yet. Well, that changed this weekend. Both myself and Claus had our first cabinet RASS cigars while at the LCDH in Montreal, on Saturday afternoon, paired with some wonderful cappuccino, and then mojitos later on for me. We were both pretty much in heaven, right from the get-go. Much more wonderful to smoke, without the box press, and it just felt like the cigar was able to be that much more "on". Best RASS I've ever had actually. Both Claus and I were saying the same thing - screw SLB boxes; from now on, we're just seeking out RASS cabs. (Rob? Got any nice HQ+ cabs laying around??? )

maverickdrinker Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 RASS are awesome! I see a 50 cab in my future...

Claus, once they get in, you'll have to PM me your thoughts. As-dark-and-oily, or more so, than the ones from LCDH Montreal? Source? Etc. If what you get in then are anything like what we had in Montreal, I'm game for a cab of those also....
cckandb24 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Now doesn't the RASS usually come in a dress box not a Slide Lid Box. I'm confused
Lotusguy Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Now doesn't the RASS usually come in a dress box not a Slide Lid Box. I'm confused Both - 25 Dress Box and 50 SLB (Cab) - I much prefer non box-pressed cigars so whenever I can, I pick up a cab (example BPC and now RASS). Still looking for a ERDM CS 50 Cab but they are HTF
riazp Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 yeah even if I got that dress box of rass off you claus I know i'll burn through them, i'm defenitly going to pick up a 50 cab this year...50 cab of ERDM CS...now your talking buddy

hidechen Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 they are available in 50's cabinet just I didn't get to see them in my Taiwanese La casa
Lotusguy Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 they are available in 50's cabinet just I didn't get to see them in my Taiwanese La casa No reputable online vendor that I know still has any stock of ERDM CS 50 cabs left. I heard about some duty-free and LCDHs having them but they are out of reach for me, living in US and all.
