FireDigger Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I have a co-worker who is leaving town this week. After a frantic search of a going-away present with little success, I'm kicking myself for not having more tubos on hand. I only have an old-styled RyJ Churchill tubo left that I'm not about to part with. A nice Cohiba Tubo would have been perfect for the occasion! That leads me to wonder, why do you buy tubos? Do they smoke better or do you get them since they make a great gift for others?
riazp Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I buy tubos because...well there is no other option for some cigars...example the czar only has siglo 4 pack in tubos, so i'll buy that...same thing for punch punch in a 10 ct box, only comes in tubos, BRC also...and heck i'll be honest they make great travel cases for day trips to the beach or downtown...I have a mag 46 tubo that i use for my CG's, a psd4 tubo for my robustos, a ryj churchill tubo for my churchill cigars.
thechenman Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Like you I think tubos are a great gift format, but more important is the fact that they are a great cigar transport mechanism. Not as bulky as a cigars case. Also...I like my cigars in the round, and tubos offer me a chance to have a round cigar when the format normally comes slightly box pressed from a dress box, like the Monte Ednumdos, or the RyJ Churchill formats.
Lotusguy Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I buy quite a few tubos since I like the portability and the presentation. It's also great if you want to try a new vitola since you can usually pick up a 3 or 5 pack without springing for a whole box. I also second that comment about the "in the round" nature of tubos.
jdbrown Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I do for same reasons but my Punch Punch, D4, and P2 Tubos are damn good! Easy to interchange etc for trips and the like.
drake2k Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 In addition to gifts and easy to carry, I have found that some tubos just taste better. EG Upmann PS2 and Siglo VI. No, i cant defend it logically and yes, I know lots of cigar smokers disagree, but that's been my experience.
AntiVirus Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I buy tubos as they usually come in small packs 3-5 so they are good for tasting before committing to a box. I also have to agree with others that they are useful if you are going out and want to take a cigar with you, and as has previously been said the tubes can then be reused to transport other cigars of the same size in the tube.
