tmac77 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Ken didn't have time to photoshop his stock smiling face headshot pic into this one?
Guest RobinFadal Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Nice catch! You sure it didn't swallow Ken.
CDNeh Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Wow now that's a Fish ,not sure what type ,but I would imagine it is fairly oldOZ I believe that it is a Giant Trevally and that they can grow to around 100 lbs. CDNeh
asmith Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Trevally at the best of times is a little chewy, I suspect that thing would be like rubber.
bc8436 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Trevally at the best of times is a little chewy, I suspect that thing would be like rubber. Hmm, wonder how it'd taste in a stew?
LeafLover Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Seriously? Can anyone guesstimate how much that fish weighs and it's dimensions?
Warren Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I kind of hope they gave it a kiss and threw it back.
Ken Gargett Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I believe that it is a Giant Trevally and that they can grow to around 100 lbs. CDNeh sent to me by a mate. he has caught some whoppers but not that one. it was from mauritius and went about 65 kilos. i think it was on poppers and no idea if it was released. i've got a tiny one on fly but it was only a kilo or two. just born, i think. have hooked a few monsters - one pulled me about ten foot along a strip of sand before breaking off 9i really need to adjust the drag!!). i did see one hoovering up anything it could find on a reef at christmas island. at least that size. in shallow water - about 2/3rds out of water and it was like a small silver car. or grumpy hippo. fortunately, it was out of casting reach (no smartarse comments, thanks). extraordinary sight.
amosnaim Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Sent to me by Ken. .....he didn't catch it put a cigar in its mouth and you got a winner for the cigar photo contest
Ken Gargett Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 A lot of these look photo-shopped!! i have no idea (when you say 'a lot', there are only two?) but if i was going to learn to photoshop, i think i'd like to be able to put myself in and not some blokes i've never met. mine came from a mate and i can't imagine he'd bother either. he has caught enough seriously big fish himself. as for the other one, again no idea but it looks like it might have been speared. entirely possible.
Ken Gargett Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 put a cigar in its mouth and you got a winner for the cigar photo contest not quite the same size but the best i can do...
riazp Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 not quite the same size but the best i can do... LOL very nice Ken!

No malice intended Ken, sorry about that. What i meant by "a lot" was so many of these types of photos out there certianly raise an eyebrow. Pics not limited to fish ofcourse, I have seen Dinosaur like bears, gators, birds, etc. Technology is amazing, tough to tell fakes from reality, I suppose same goes for cigars and who would have thought a little boy could take down the illusive Tasmanian Giant Pig by himself!! Cheers.
lancerv43 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 That fish is huge. The pig on the other hand is just a piglet compared to ones I've shot.

amosnaim Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 not quite the same size but the best i can do... good one . i take it this one is a wet smoker... i wonder if he would take the 898 or de dieux for the Prez's question...
tinsel26 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 That first photo just looks a little off because of the angle. You can see the fish resting on the guy's knees. It's probably the same size as the one in the second pic. The Hawaiian name for the Trevally is Ulua, and a 100 lb Ulua is the holy grail for fishermen and divers in Hawaii.
