It is a good article. Whenever I read, hear, consider this kind of regulation / legislation, it simply reminds me that we rarely learn from our own history.

I imagine that tobacco will simply go underground as alcohol did during prohibition, and drugs are now. There will always be those enterprising individuals

who will take advantage of the situation.

And I am looking for a new career..... :D

A good read. Thanks for posting the link, Rob.

Consternation? Yeah, I'm feeling it...but not so much because I'm working on my deck, smoking and enjoying my second cigar of the night, a delightful La Flor de Cano. :D

HI all

It seems to me that the world is going to hell in a hand basket (bloody do gooders)

It is a well written article and reflects what is going on world wide ,and it seems to me that our American brothers are now just starting to experience what we in other parts of the world have had encroaching on us for some time.

It is a juggernaut which is very hard to stop but a least the U.S has a good Cigar lobby groups

The end result I feel is that in the U.S you will be all taxed to the hilt like we are here in OZ more so in the light of Americas money woes at the moment

Cheers OZ :D

Did he actually say anything of note?

I get the point but I don't think the political analysis was particularly insightful or useful.

Commy, I could be wrong... but I see it more of a written reflection of his frustrations at our Nanny State mentality rather than a commentary or article.

if this fda thing goes thru i dont see how the cigar industry in the u.s. could survive or be affordable, cubans might be the only option

I don't think any of these writings cut to the meat of the matter. I find myself agreeing with Ross. Will mankind never learn?

The USA is nothing less than a soft tyranny today! From lightbulbs to toilets, you can't do a damned thing without a permit or license. If it is not prohibited, it is mandatory! Instead of talking *** marriage we should be asking what the government has to do with a private contract between two adults, ***, straight or otherwise.

Fighting these fights on a rational level is useless. How do you fight rationally with people who hide behind "well being" an agenda of demonize and tax, or commandeer and control? A group of money hungry lawyers, combined with another group of money hungry government officials just team up to find a means to levy a new tax through the judicial system instead of through the tax code. It is about money... money and control, every time!

These folks who are always on the cutting edge of the nanny state want nothing more than to tax and redistribute wealth. Find a demon, hopefully a successful one with deep pockets and find a way to get another hand in that pocket beyond the normal channels of taxation and use the judicial system. Asbestosis, silicosis, tobacco, drugs, medicine.... everyone is at fault except those who have spent the US into 14T in debt and all but destroyed our free enterprise system.

Every well intentioned law helps a few people and ***** 1000's of others. Another business will get in line to move off shore, new lobbyists will make a bundle and another level of corruption will be formed.
