Trinidad Short Robusto LE 2010

post-4-1310531718.jpg

I can't bring myself to doing a full review on the Trinidad Short Robusto T. The experience was just too woeful, too disappointing.

Now I know there are some of you who love this cigar. I can't see it and as always will call it as I see it.

if there was a corner in old Havana where the recalcitrant Habanos cigars would hang out with their mates then the Trin Short Robusto would be hanging out with the Monte Open Gang.

Seriously, HSA, Garcia etal...what the F were you thinking?

"Pues...Los gringos enjoy the Trinidad Robusto T. Let's do a Short Robusto LE, make it 2/3 rds the size and more expensive!" Magnifico!

Well you can all go and shove the Trinidad Short Robusto LE where the sun don't shine.

This is to me the most pathetic cigar to come out of Habanos in 10 years. Now, the Monte Open line was pathetic but you didn't go and charge a small fortune for it. Still, one of the great disgraces to Cuban Cigars in the decade but it ranks as Cristal compared to this piece of crap.

The Trinidad Robusto "T" is a great cigar. It has complexity, charachter, body and class. The Trinidad Short Robusto is in comparison a crack ***** living off its parents name.

Before I get worked up let me list it's failings.

  1. It is too bloody short. Assuming it had some complexity and charachter how would you even enjoy it given I have had Mormons at the door who have showed more longevity?
  2. A cigar needs flavour. This has none. Don't piss me around with a cigar in a Short Robusto format which doesn't hit stride up front. What am I waiting for? The Finale? If the Monte Petit Edmundo can do it and the HDM Petit Robusto can do it then why am I paying twice the amount for half the delivery?. Get over your ******* selves.
  3. The burn. I have had 20 of these pieces of crap and none...none... even has an inkling of what a burn is like. Your blend is wrong.
  4. Flavour. Let's have some? I mean...its not Fricken difficult? Some nuances of toasted tobacco and a hint of SFA doesn't cut it at this price point.
  5. DNA. What in hells name does this cigar represent in the proud line of Trinidad? It is the puss boil on the scrotum of a great line. What don't you understand about mainining integrity? How can you be proud of this crap?
  6. Price. I would recommend puritos above this rubbish. How did you expect to get away with it? Your International marketing guy who came up with this trash (over 4 weeks) needs to get his ponytail out of his eyes and spend time with real cigar lovers.

You let yourseves down, the consumer down, your retailers down with this pathetic piece of nonsence.

I can't even rate this piece of crap. It is without doubt the most useless, self indulgent, shonky rubbish I have ever smoked out of HSA.

Gee Rob I better order up a Mastercase of these with this glowing review :wink2:

Tell us what you really mean why don't you LOLOL

Lise, order up a Mastercase at Christmas, give them to the homeless...and then apologise.

Good thing it is only a one-off cigar! Rob, are you going to attach this "glowing" review to the Short Robusto on the Cigar Czar site? :wink2:

Thanks for the honest heads up.

Two things.

HSA doesn't care what we think, every LE sells about 80% of the first batch at a very high premium well before the first one is lit.

Do you not intend to ever come back to Cuba,or are you going to do some plastic surgery and go into FOH witness protection?

I am there in 8 weeks.

They love me...they hate me...they love me ...they hate me ....such is life :wink2:

God I love brutal honesty. Pity HSA have their heads so far up their arse that they'll never care as long as somebody is still buying.

Rob,

Clearly its a conspiracy to piss you off on your own deck.

That we, your friends at FOH, get entertained at your expense is just an unintended consequence. :wink2:

Thanks for the reviews.

I love your honesty Rob, its so refreshing to see, I have the exact same feelings about this cigar, thankfully I split the box and only had to suffer through 5...but then again that half box that I bought, we could have bought a box of monte Pe's for less and enjoyed them 10 times more.

Good to know, I'll steer way clear of it! I think I have now seen more negative reviews on limited editions .... way more negative reviews than positive reviews. Is it just me or does it seems like the general consensus on most of the limited editions is they are either crap or not worth the money when you compare them to other cigars?

Great, honest review. An example of why so many of us are here.

The fact that you've gone through about 20 of them illustrates that you're not just "blowing smoke" and this truly a "puss boil on the scrotum of a great line". These did not appeal to me in the first place due to the price and your first review. I am definitely going to avoid these.

Been wondering about this one.

Seemed overpriced even as a Trinidad, and sometimes that's OK for an exceptional smoke, but your review confirms it is a waaaaaaaaay overpriced piece of kaka.

You must have had an 898 as a pick-me-up after that, Pres.

I have had my final learning experience with the LE line. The Bolivar Petit Belicosos is terrible, I don't even want to smoke them. The Mag 48, really hit and miss. For me, I'm sticking with regular production stuff.

that Magnum 49, the hardest one to get of all LE's I have never seen one :lookaround:

There are a couple of cigars mentioned:

Bolivar Short Bolivar

Upmann Magnum 48

Bolivar Petit Belicoso

All three have a solid following. Neither of the Boli's is my cup of tea but there are people who swear by them. I have had excellent flavours from both (on occassion) but plenty of misses. The shape of the Bolivar Short Bolivar just annoys me...but thats me.

I love the Upmann Magnum 48 flavour profile. For some reason it just registers with my palate.

There have been some very good LE particularly pre 06. The current Monte Grand Edmundo is one that is standing above the pack. Like any LE, I need to see plenty of them/smoke a fair few of them before coming to a general line of thought.

The Trinidad Short Robusto LE is trash in my opinion.
