asmith Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 We are progressively finding out which Cuban Cigar has the highest rate of member satisfaction (and the lowest). I will run through the 30 most popular cigars during April/May/June and will provide an ongoing chart to see how the cigars stack up. It should go without saying to only vote if you have actually tried one Feel free to post your experiences and thoughts on the thread Today's cigar: Ramon Allons Specially Select
CBL Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Generally LOVE Ramon Allones, but HATE the RASS, tried and wanted to love it, but it has always been disappointing I hope that some day I'll get to understand why most people love this robusto.
SCgarman Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Love it, very unique flavor profile. Lots of complexity and no strength kick.
headstand Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Loved the first one I had. Loathed the second one. Different B&M though - the one I liked was actually fairly moist. Have a couple from Czars coming. Will vote after i try those.
mm12 Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Definitely a good cigar. I think there is a bit of inconsistency with RASS, but these along with the Robusto T are head and shoulders above the rest of the Cuban robustos in terms of the blend in my opinion. For those that just don't get these, I suggest letting them age for a few years before you smoke them. The young grassy flavor will go away, and you'll be left with chocolate, stewed fruit, raisin, coffee, some Christmas spice...just a great complex cigar.
shrink Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Generally LOVE Ramon Allones, but HATE the RASS, tried and wanted to love it, but it has always been disappointing I hope that some day I'll get to understand why most people love this robusto. I felt the same way until I smoked my first RASS with over five years of age. Now I'm hooked.
KWG116 Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I voted average. Have a cab from 07 that are ok. Also have some TEB 08's that are ok. Smoked one two weeks ago and will not touch another for awhile. Thank you Kwg116
partifan Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I love these cigars. Complex flavor, and great price and value.
ksblazer Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 My favorite among the Ramon Allones line up. A great cigar for the $$.
bassman Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Never had a bad one. Never had a great one post 1995. Guess that's average.
tsolomon Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 One of my favorites and even the 2010s are smoking well.
smokinpeace Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I love these. I am shocked to see the approval rating so low. To each his own I guess.
duwan Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 One of my go to robustos. The other being the PSD4. Don't know what other people think about the RASS, but me likes 'em.
Styler Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 I just love these, I've maybe just been lucky but I've never had a bad one. I know that a lot of people say that they need a minimum of 5 years but yesterday I cracked open a box (POL NOV10), not even a year old, and it was beautiful. No other stick has the kind of chilli chocolate flavours this one does in the first third.
aavkk Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 The first few singles I had of these in 07 were just ok, then I had a few great ones at which time I began purchasing cabs. They are just getting better and better and consistently very enjoyable. While I really dont love the size its the flavor profile that I keep coming back for, mmm stewed fruit.
sg1234 Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 One of my go to robustos. The other being the PSD4. I'm not much of a robusto guy, but I love these two cigars. Never had a bad RASS. While I really dont love the size its the flavor profile that I keep coming back for, mmm stewed fruit. Well said and agreed.
coneatty Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 I love these. I am shocked to see the approval rating so low. To each his own I guess. You know, I'm shocked at my answer in this poll, which was "average." I have had some amazing RASS's, but my last box was a real disappointment, so...
Wil Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Smoking a RASS now. First one I've had in a year or two. Beautiful opening. Getting the fruit others have mentioned, but more dried fruit than stewed. Bit of cedar there too and a bit of spice developing. Who said you can't get complexity in a 50rg cigar?!!
mbrody Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 For those that just don't get these, I suggest letting them age for a few years before you smoke them. The young grassy flavor will go away, and you'll be left with chocolate, stewed fruit, raisin, coffee, some Christmas spice...just a great complex cigar. I have 2007 RASS. Should they be there yet? Such mixed experiences with these, and unfortunately, mostly average.
mdzotti78 Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I only had a few RASS's and they were all enjoyable. It's going to be my next box purchase in the near future.
stogieokie Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I'm with CBL on this one. I too have wanted to love them, but just can't. I've tried them old, young, and in between and they just don't do it for me. It's a bummer too as the price on these always seems attractive.
