riazp Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Hello fellow FoH'ers, For my second review on this forum (my 3rd in my carreer) I deceided to do a review of the Monsdale. I obtained this cigar at a LCDH Montreal event during the F-1 Grand Prix weekend here in montreal. The GM of the LCDH, Mark, Invited Master cigar roller Mr. Jorge Lopez to his store to roll some custom cigars for us. He was rolling 3 cigars that day, a corona, a belicoso and the monsdale. I deceided on grabbing a few monsdales since I had heard so much about this cigar. Here is my review an I only hope I can do it justice. Pre-Light: The construction, simply put, exellent. It has un unfinished foot with a pigtail cap. It had a very distinct barnyard aroma. Once cut, it had a very good draw, the flavors from the the cold draw where those of tobacco and dark cherry. First third : Started off with spice Earthy, dirt like flavours in this part later on in the first third I was getting some leather/cow hyde and finally towards the end of this portion, animal like flavours. Second third : The animal flavours continued in the second third with the leathery flavours making a re-apperance spice is all but gone i was getting nutty/alomond flavours on the finish. Last third : the last third was very earthy, alot more pronounced than the first third leather is still in the lavours in this last third I was also getting manure. I was getting faint hints of dark cherry, mostly on the finish. Final thoughts : Firstly, this was a extremely enjoyable smoke, the draw was just about perfect, the burn was exellent, did not have to do any touch-ups. The smoke time was about 70 minutes. This cigar is essentially the ideal size, a 40ish rg about 6 inches and change. The only down side is, I wish I had picked up more than the 4 I left with. It spent about 14 days in my humidor, just giving it enough time to rest. I cant wait to smoke the remaining 3 I have left. Final Score : 92 I hope you enjoyed my 2nd review, once again, feel free to leave me any feedback in order to help me on my reviews, I've discovered this is something that I really enjoy doing and enhances my smoking experience.
Puros Y Vino Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Great review and pic riaz... So..tasting manure in a cigar warrants a 92??
riazp Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 Great review and pic riaz...So..tasting manure in a cigar warrants a 92?? Yes... the more poop the better lol
ramon_cojones Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Is this a truly enjoyable cigar or is the desirability due to the hype? Thanks the review, I enjoy these.
maverickdrinker Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 nice review. i got a bundle of these when i was in cuba. will fire one up tomorrow.
Vortigan Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Yes... the more poop the better lol Great reveiew, thanks.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Sweet review! My last Monte Especial had poop in it too lol
riazp Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 well since i'm new to cigar reviews, what I did is I used the cigar flavor wheel on this forum, and basically the only word that could describe what I was getting was...well manure! the whole cigar was basically a taste of the barnyard, leather/cow hyde, dirt/mud, but the almond and dark cherry on the finish in the second and last third made up for it. i'm going to take laficion's advice when we were chatting yesterday and pick up a bundle of these, I really enjoyed it. @Ramon : Its a truely enjoyable cigar that LIVES UP to the hype, well deserving of it. Like Laficion said to me, if you go to cuba you MUST pick up some monsdales. Thanks for the great feedback guys! like I mentioned I really enjoy doing this and i'M already planning my third review
riazp Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Ramone, I defenitly suggest you do if you have the chance, its defenitly not a cigar for everyone, but its defenitly worth it.
Puros Y Vino Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 well since i'm new to cigar reviews, what I did is I used the cigar flavor wheel on this forum, and basically the only word that could describe what I was getting was...well manure! Use "merde" instead of "manure". Sounds classier.
str8dog Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Nice review Riaz. Sounds kind of rustic. How 'bout giving us updates in 6 and 12 months to let us know if they shed the barnyardiest flavours with some age.
riazp Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Yeah I probably will, however from what i've been told by the gm of LCDH montreal, these cigars dont really age, you smoke them young and fresh...maybe members here who have experience with the monsdale know more about this.
