I have been wondering why no one, other than Aizuddin (thank you btw), does video reviews for FOH. I have found some people doing weird and poorly organized reviews on youtube, but I don't know those people. I would find much more value in video reviews from FOH members as you guys are extremely kind and informed smokers.

The reason I don't do it is because I'm not sure I want to be on video smoking.....online for the rest of my life.

I guess I'm the kind who'd rather read the book than see the movie. Other than that I really hate the idea of having something I've done on an information

gathering site like youtube, facespace, mybook, etc.

I'd probably be more apt to do it if I had my own, or access to, a private secure server.

Easy..because I am a hideous hulk of a man. :2thumbs: A cross between a balding Sasquatch and Quasimodo, without the hump. Any video review attempt would require that I wear my Nacho Libre Luchadore mask. Which is highly flammable and should it ignite it could either improve or drastically reduce my hideousness. That is why I do not do video reviews. :unknown:

I will do it eventually. I've been involved with a website since 2008 that is essentially a community generated zombie/apocalyptic film. 18,000 members after three years and the biggest problem is people posting that first video. When they do and then realise that people don't make fun of them/realise they don't look an idiot/nothing bad can come of it, they can't stop making and uploading stuff.

Editing software nowadays is cheap and simple to use, cameras are the same, I'll always give out advice if anyone wants any :2thumbs:

But yeah I would say from my experience in helping run that above community, that for most people doing that first video is a big step, when you actually do it then you realise there was nothing to it, you don't need flashy equipment or software or a sparkling personality; people will appreciate you making the effort and you'll make more videos as a result. You lso find that similar people with similar interests connect to you and you can make good friendships and bounce videos off each other etc.

My advice would be don't plan it or worry, just set up a camera and let it run. Upload whatever you get and then next time you can worry about fancy editing or improving volume leves etc. At the end of the day no one worth your time will ever knock your stuff.

Plus if you don;t like the idea of youtube account, Vimeo is an awesome service, you can set the videos to private with certain exceptions etc only when your video is played FoH can it be seen.

I don't need to be seen on some video smoking some dang cigar. I'll be more than glad to watch YOU guys on video smoking one. I don't smoke in public anyway.

Because I really enjoy watching Rob, Smithy, Ken and their sit in guests doing vid reviews. They manage to mix humor with an honest opinion of the cigar they are smoking. :2thumbs:

Bro, have some modesty. Jesus, your arrogance is unbecoming. hehe :)

But I dont understand your point. Why would the fact that you enjoy Rob et al's reviews mean you cant do your own videos?? are you saying that their video reviews are enough for you?

You dont need to be seen by whom exactly? are you more concerned about your professional life or personal life......or both?

I like the option of Vimeo if as you describe, you can limit access from the FOH site. I wonder if it would be possible to limit videos to FOH members rather than any FOH visotor.....

If I ever have the privilege to vacation in Oz, you might see me smoking a cigar on the czar deck with Rob and his cast of merry men. Other than that, I am not a publicity seeker. I am like Dracula, I enjoy my privacy and prefer to stay out of the spotlight.

I just don't think it'd be anything interesting I could put forth. I'm sittin' there puffing on a cigar. Sooo? But I have utmost respect for those who want to brave forth and put their perspective on what they're smoking for all to see. I s'pose in retrospect, I just don't think anybody'd care on my end. Am not an entertainer, just a regular jane

Good question Trad. How about 'all of the above'?

Kudos to those of you who have the moxie to put it out there, and I second the thanks to Aizuddin...

Yes. Thanks to Aizuddin for putting himself out there. :2thumbs: Somehow, his voice reminds me a bit of Arnold Schwarzenegger, only difference is that I can understand 100% what Aizuddin is saying. :unknown:

Link pls? Also, just read that World War Z is about to start filming in the UK.

where was the 'because the guys that do it now are just so damn awesome' option?

more seriously, you do need the equipment that fortunately rob has, or at least a version. not sure how easy it is for most.

You can set videos to password protected so only people you give the password can watch them, and you can choose where the video is embedded and who can embed it, so for example only you can embed them, and they can only be embeded on FoH.

We just finished up our short film for the Sundance Festival too B) :

No Candles

We did an interview with George Romero last year as he said he would be very suprised if WWZ got off the ground, apparently there are huge issues

Cool. Thanks for the link. Here's one about the WWZ filming.

Other: I find that even reviewing a cigar, takes too much away from enjoying the cigar and just relaxing. So having to think about reviewing the cigar and worrying about making sure the light is right for the video and that the video is gonna turn out okay would just ruin the cigar for me.

My eldest and his mates have now found the reviews. So have his teachers.

Seriously what is it that we can say that would be damaging B)

In my case, both the above plus a generous sprinkling of paranoia with core of "I do enjoy my privacy" (Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you)... also, I am one of those dinosaurs that enjoys written reviews (with pictures) more so than video reviews... the quality of the cigar often affects the tone of the review, with a good cigar inspiring almost cigar poetry... I must say that I read and enjoy more reviews than I watch video reviews, and I did enjoy immensely the old written Prez's reviews...

I prefer reading the reviews and looking at some pretty pictures to watching a video. As such, if I'm going to do one I'll be writing it.

I thought I would add a comment in here somewhere.

Let me first start by telling you what equipment we use for our reviews:

  1. Sony Handy Cam - Off the top of my head was about AUD$700 three years ago
  2. Additional Wide Angle Lens - Need this otherwise we would all be sitting on Ken's lap. A cheap addition cost AUD$45
  3. Wireless Microphone - Helps to localise audio and improves pick up of the people around the recording, not cheap AUD$250 worth it though.
  4. Tripod - We have a full tripod but a small one set up on a table would work fine. Full size tripod also used for taking cigar photos AUD$150
  5. Additional Lighting - Only used in late afternoons in winter or nights, we have proper studio lights, but a simple twin set of spot lights from a hardware store work fine AUD$20
  6. Editing Software - Sony Vegas Studio, simple fit having the same brand AUD$160, there are cheaper and simpler versions.
  7. Three idiots to sit in front of camera and smoke cigars - Its hard to put a price on these idiots.

That is a breakdown of what we have and use, I know you don't need all of that stuff and if I had my way I would have a bunch more equipment to improve on the reviews. If you look a out first couple of reviews you can see that we had no idea what we were doing and the editing was pretty poor. Not that anything has improved in the reviews or the editing but we now have a formula that works and the editing is a lot shorter process now.

The biggest troubles we have is consuming to much wine and forgetting to either turn on/off the camera or audio. This generally occurs when Rob is in control of the remotes and we record several hours of three idiots sitting around on the deck not realising the camera is rolling so you end up with rubbish or you get a classic shot of Ken's butt exposed to the camera. You guys are lucky that you don't have to sit through all that crap that ends up on the cutting room floor.

Here are some pictures of the equipment that we use.

Innate shyness

Additional Wide Angle Lens - Need this otherwise we would all be sitting on Ken's lap. A cheap addition cost AUD$45

Thats Money well spent :P ?(only kidding ken)

But with out Smithy s effort none of these Videos would be possible

Cheers OZ :wink2:
